It seems to me, though, that a fighters existence on this forum is somewhat akin to Jim Carrey's life on the "truman" show. Sheltered from the real world. Nobody speaking to them in a genuine tone for fear of a ban. Those running the site have manufactured an artificial world around the fighters wherein they cannot be criticized. I suppose there are legitimate business concerns involved here, as the one thing that separates the UG from the other 9 billion MMA sites is the fighter participation. Without that, the UG would not be so trendy. Still one of my favorite sites to view on a daily basis but this particular element is troubling for someone like me who is a huge proponent of free speech and open discussion.
I completely agree with you. I hadn't read the Carwin thread until this brought it to my attention and can't understand why Shane can post what he did and not get any backlash from it? Maybe the way harry crumb wrote it wasn't the best, but his points were kind of right.
Shanes thread was actually directed to another pro fighter not haters who aren't pro fighters or even athletes.
Plenty of fighters get talked to or talked about with the exact opposite of praise. Like all things in life there is a right way and a wrong way to do things. 
Why do people debate the technicalities of this crap?
If I have people in my house, I expect them to respect my family, other friends, etc

That seems to be the attitude around here. There are far worse things said on this forum, often by the same bunch of posters, but the fighters that they regularly trash don't post here, so that makes it okay.

The distinction is that these guys are saying it directly to a fighter that posts here (In the case of Rogan and Shane).
Criticizing a fighter on the UG is not the same as telling a fighter directly "Hey why don't you go win a fight, you got beat by a WWE wrestler".

Just because someone makes a thread stating that they don't think Fedor is the Goat, or has fought easy competition (Im not saying that, just using it as an example because those are the types of threads that you see) that is not ban-worthy.
