I just won $80 on Leija

and i didn't think is should have been a split decision either. Leija clearly won, imo, by 2 or 3 rounds. I thought he was done after the 2nd though

and i don't know how in the hell Lederman gave Bojado the last round. that was just stupid.

Leija threw more, landed more, and landed more power punches, and he looked like he hurt Bojado twice in the last couple of rounds.

Bojado got the knockdown, and really should have gotten two, but other than that i didn't think he did much

Nice! I won $120, and had it 96-93 Leija.

lol, i just checked it and i actually won $100. i forgot what i bet i guess

I agree Lederman was on crack giving Bojado the 10th.

i looked at the screen when lederman gave him the 10th and was like WTF?!

anyways, i won $100

Congrats to all you who bet on Leija. Me and one other guy at maxboxing picked Leija, about ten or 12 others picked Bojado.

Course I picked Gatti over Dorin by decision....

But Leija was definitely slept on. Bojado looked good, but not great, in recent fights, and the kid clearly didn't have confidence in keeping his early rounds' pace. By the middle rounds he'd decelerated and was fighting in spurts, and Jessie just outworked him.

Jessie's body work has huge in the fight. I'll get an interview with him tomorrow and get his thoughts up on maxboxing asap.

Nice to see the old guys win one now and then.

Congrats on the $$$ guys. I still gotta chuck some money down on Williams. I think may even go for the draw, which I think is more realistic. 34/1 or something like that here in the UK. Gotta be done.

34 to 1 on the draw?

Ya know what, I like Williams if it goes past 4-5.

The thing about Tyson these days (and hell, the last 5-6 years) is that he's very dangerous in the first two rounds or so, then fades like a half-life. If you frustrate him and smack him good in the opening round, it really diminishes his offense.

We have a vid of Williams training up at maxboxing, and I gotta say the guy has some decent hand speed. I know he's had losses and stuff but he has size and is much heavier than Tyson (at 250 Williams is solid).

He's got to clinch Tyson quickly if Mike gets inside (mike makes clinches a lot too, always has). When he does this, he must walk Tyson back like Evander did, break, and he'll have more room to move. Frustrate Mike and get a few shots in...kill the clock...and get it past the opening couple rounds.

What are the betting odds on Williams? I'd take 8-1 or better, definitely.

Hey jase,

British odds are 7/1 against a Williams win, and 34/1 for a draw. It's just stupid. I'm gonna stick £10 on each.

Here's my thinking: -

Williams will let Tyson dictate early, backing off or absorbing a few shots. Say that lasts 3-4 rounds and maybe with Tyson dropping him. That gives Williams 5-6 to make up for it. I don't think Williams will dropp Tyson - MT has a very reliable chin - so I think it may be a case of Williams getting a draw or a JD on a narrow margin. I was thinking to myself right at the start when this was announced that Williams was a bad choice of opponent for MT. I saw Williams fight Keith Long on UK TV and Long uncorked some huge ones on WIlliams, and he didn't even blink. Whether he wins or loses, I think DW is going into this thinking he will definitely beat Tyson.

I discussed the odds a bit more here: -

Roach wants Tyson to take Williams deep though. I actually don't see any way at all Williams makes it through this one, but i put money on Williams anyway

i just watched the replay on HBO, and i don't see how Lederman gave Bojado 8-10 at all. its just nonsense

and that's unusual too. Merchant is usually much less accurate than Lederman

Boxing being what it is I was just happy Leija got the split decision. I was waiting for him to get hosed though Leija obviously should've had every card by a couple rounds.

u4, how's Williams' stamina? I like the idea of kiling the clock, pulling a "Botha" in the early rounds. Just wonder how Danny's gas in.

He's a big guy and don't be surprised if he hurts Tyson or wobbles him if it goes past mike's initial burst (3-4 rounds, maybe less). Tyson has a solid chin, but you got to figure it's a little worn after that vicious Lewis beating. Who knows? Sonny Liston was able to walk through a sledgehammer until age and mileage caught up to him vs. Leotis Martin.

Jase,

The main weapon I think Tyson has right now is the expertise of Roach in his corner. Sounds like he's not taking any shit from Tyson and the discipline will surely be a massive, massive benefit for him.

As for Williams' stamina - it's very good for any fighter, exceptional for a guy his size. When he fought Long it was back and forth for the entire 12 rounds (basically because DW couldn't seem to be bothered blocking Long's shots) and despite giving and taking a lot of heavy shots, he was still very fresh at the end of the fight. It's not DW's overall ability that I think could potentially cause Tyson huge problems, but his style. Williams' apathy has pissed me off a lot in the past... fights against guys that are nowhere near his class are often close because he simply fights down to his opponents level ALL the time. Against Tyson he knows it's make or break for his career. I would be AMAZED if Williams freezes or lies down for Tyson.

If DW can take it into the second half of the fight and simply do what Holy did with Tyson - don't let him dictate or rest - then I wouldn't be surprised if Williams beats him.

Booo. Leija is boring. Go Bojado.
