The guy gets an idea, and often it’s not that bad an idea. At least, it is a reasonable or legitimate, relevant point of interest. But then he distorts it into a dramatic narcissistic expression of, and for, himself. Making it all about him via an over the top theatrical performance.
So the idea of getting used to impact is a reasonable notion. It is of course, a notion dealt with in sparring, over years. But he turns it into this gay, sadistic, soft core porn film.
He gets the idea of being nimble and alert, fully conscious, in the cage. Which is a reasonable idea, and is addressed usually with speed drills, jumping rope, reflex mitt work and so on. And he turns it into chasing guys around the cage with a knife.
He is taking very simple fight concepts, and dramatizing them as though they are his original observations, and is creating a drama that around them that he can be the centre of.
What was he saying at the end about working with special forces and that he works in counter-terrorism…he does a lot of alluding to and implying of things, but we all know it not true Fabes
I don’t believe Diego is completely unaware.
Fabia gives him all the attention he needs and thinks he deserves and Diego is shrugging off his more bizarre behaviour.
He complained he wasn’t getting attention at Jackson’s, especially as his career wound down and he was no longer a prospect, so he’s found someone that will make him their number one.
Old fighters don’t suddenly develop new skill sets. Diego wasn’t really going to improve in any particular area in the last couple of years no matter where he trained. But he’s smart enough to know being chased with a knife isn’t going to do jack shit for him. He just doesn’t care.
Diego’s too much of an odd ball himself to start up his own gym from scratch post retirement and he’s looking at Fabia as his ticket to that, the same way Fabia loves the spotlight he gets through their association.

The most recent video I’ve seen of Bonnar he was screaming “cowards!” at a bunch of random people in his gym as he was getting kicked out for refusing to wear a mask. Like Diego, I’m not sure he’s in a very good place mentally.
