Let's say for the sake of argument that we could somehow make the following fighters the same weight class... they all retain their peak levels of ability, and we compare them all at the peak of their dominance.
Who's the best??
BJ Penn
Fedor
Anderson Silva
Matt Hughes
Nogueira
Hendo
Lesnar
Demetrious Johnson
Whonis the absolute best? What specific matchups do you want to see???
Daniel Cormier?
If he's the same size as Jones then Jones has no reach advantage which nullifies his advantage. DC already proved he can beat HWs.
maybe its due to lesser competition, but dj looks the best technically all around of the fighters listed
making em all the same size is the pound for pound thing

Did you watch Anderson in his prime?

Much much easier to co ordinate a smaller frame. They should always have higher skill
DJ's technical skill is damn incredible. He just does everything right and doesn't have any holes in his game.
I know many will think I'm crazy, but I don't think the GSP should even be on the list.
GuttyProfessor - I know many will think I'm crazy, but I don't think the GSP should even be on the list.
Why not? GSP ruled over the UFC's deepest division dominating every type of fighter thrown at him, wrestlers, strikers, grapplers, didn't matter, he's shown that he can win against any potential match up. GSP is a nightmare matchup for anyone his size, you think his wins came from some sort of size advantage or something?

He's the best at winning fights, but not the best fighter.
I feel like mighty mouse at 6'4 would lose most of his coordination and skills
ShantheMan-
I said they retain their skill at peak levels.
GSP was awesome. The thing is, he beat people because he was incredibly gifted at his one aspect of fighting. Yes, he could force his opponents to fight his fight, but he was, in my opinion, from an earlier generation that would be far less competitive now. I mean, I believe at equal size, DJ would destroy GSP in an absolutely brutal one sided beat down.
Out of all te choices, Fedor has the best argument in terms of actually fighting different sized opponents both bigger(and considerably bigger) as well as same size and smaller opponents.
Based on well roundedness and dominance, I'd then say DJ.

Why's Matt Hughes on the list then ?
The answer is almost always the smaller guy, it's DJ by a distant margin tbh.
A HW with Penn's BJJ, toughness, and boxing would be unbelievable. His cardio doesn't matter as much at the higher weights
Bobby Lupo - A HW with Penn's BJJ, toughness, and boxing would be unbelievable. His cardio doesn't matter as much at the higher weights
Imagine a HW with BJ's dexterity

Did you watch Anderson in his prime?
Sure did. Silva did not have any takedown defense and his guard waa good but not good enough to excuse his lack of TD defense. Same size DJ whoops Anderson
