What a mess! If Cain is indeed out with a broken hand we've got:
Lesnar retired.
Overeem suspended.
Hunt / Cain / Cormier / Barnett injured.
Nog / Carwin / Mir coming off losses.
That's almost all of the top 10 heavyweights out of action right now.
Frank got his shot with wins over Cro Cop, Nog and Nelson.
Werdum is ranked in the top 5 and has wins over Bigfoot, Fedor and Nelson and if he puts a stop to Russows 11 fight win streak on top of that he is easily the best option right now.
Werdum vs JDS 2 would be interesting - that first fight with JDS was Juniors debut in the UFC. Werdum came in looking chubby and not having any idea of the monster he was facing.
I think JDS still takes it convincingly but I think Werdum does a lot better than Mir and has a much better chance at an upset. He has a much more solid chin than Mir, his striking looked sharp beating up Big Country more convincingly than Mir and he is arguably the best HW BJJ guy around right now.
Hopefully Cain's hands not broken or Werdum stomps Russow in dominant fashion so the HW division doesn't sit in complete limbo for the rest of the year!!

If werdum looks amazing against Russow then I suppose that could do it, but that fight wont sell much in the states... it could headline Brazil though.

They should just do the Werdum JDS fight in a Brazilian card if Cain is injured and he beats Russow in dominant fashion (i really do not see Overeem being fast tracked here....). Dana needs to ''make'' up something for the Brazilian fans anyways. It is a risk but the chances will be that JDS comes through that title defense reasonable unscathed and will be able to fight either the Reem or Cain.

Werdum fight is pointless, JDS crushed him, and while Werdum is better than what he showed in that fight, it's just going to be another bullshit deal where he flops to guard everytime JDS raises his fist, just like the Overeem fight. All JDS would have to do is avoid the ground like the plague, he wins, the end.
