If GSP wins back his title

He's already the GOAT.

You have to break the GOAT down by weight class. That's the only way to do it.

But if he does win his belt back, you can make an exception for him as the GOAT in the history of the worlds!

It's really difficult to determine the GOAT for these reasons. It gets to a point - looking at most impressive accomplishments - where you just start splitting hairs:

DJ: Benavidez x 2, Dodson x 2

Aldo: Frankie Edgar x 2, Chad Mendes x 2, Urijah Faber

GSP: BJ Penn x 2, Matt Hughes x 2, Jon Fitch, Carlos Condit

Anderson: Chael x 2, Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin x 2, Forest Griffin (all finishes)

Jones: Cormier, Gus, Shogun, Rashad, Machida, Glover, Rampage

Fedor: Nog x 2, Cro Cop, Sylvia, 10 years undefeated

I mean, you can parse those lists any ways you'd like, but those are your GOATs.

GSP winning the belt back would be incredible for a variety of reasons and definitely adds to his case.
Add Diaz, Hendricks (I know controversial depending on opinion), Shields, Kos and Alves were on winning streaks

Besides Hardy, everyone GSP beat were undefeated or on winning streaks

Those were all impressive wins. At worst, a gimpy GSP won two rounds versus a roided up Hendricks and had a very close first round, nearly submitting him. Whatever people might like to say, he left that fight the champion.

When you look at who Jake Shields has beaten in his career (Lawler, Condit, Maia, to name just a few) that win becomes more impressive, even though it was a terrible fight. The Alves and Kos wins were impressive.

Diaz was not on a win streak.

If GSP wins back his title he would be without a doubt the greatest of all time. If he defends it there won't even be a question.

Jre's what I don't get ever since the announcement that gsp was coming back everybody has been talking about him fighting at 185 I thought for sure he was the 170 champ. Did he say he's only going 185?

The length of time that Anderson dominated and how he broke all records... that makes him the GOAT.

Just add in the showtime, the swagger, the unique individual he had. we will never see another like him.

He has nothing to gain and everythig to lose in regards to his legacy by coming back

I agree,

Anderson is way overrated and a proven cheat. I remember plenty of times everyone was bitching about how boring he was until the UFC marketing machine came in and started hyping him up as "The greatest of all time".. give me a fucking break

GSP would have to go on like a 7 fight finishing steak at this point to even be in the question. He's one of the most boring fighters of all time, quit when testing got tough, and ran from Johnny Hendricks of all people. Lol

Anderson is a multiple time convicted cheat.  His whole legacy is tarnished because you cannot give a cheat the benefit of the doubt.  Same with Jon Jones.

I personally cannot nor will not give proven cheats that mantle.

Proven or not St Pierre was juiced to the moon, and anyone with a brain larger than a pea knows that.

One could argue fighting Bisping might be "easier" than Woodley (should Woodley retain the title) and winning in another weight class is all the rage these days.

I think the path to the welterweight belt is readily accessible if you're not talking Woodley. Woodley would be a bad night for the guy that should've lost to Johnny Hendricks way back when. Too fast, too explosive, too strong, big power, better wrestler.

Nope. Better to look for a fight with Bisping or McGregor - the higher value and perceived easier paths.

Gsp is goat
