How would you rank him officially in the GOAT rankings?
I think we can all agree that the top 3 is Fedor, Anderson, GSP as is with guys whose careers are still ongoing like Jones (Jones is already a contender)
Conor will come knocking then
Out of the 3 he has the toughest opposition. I'd say he's already there career wise, anything else just elevates him more.
if he comes back and wins a ufc title he is the GOAT. honestly i consider all three of those guys on the same level for entirely different reasons when it comes to talking about their legacy status. Jones is pretty great but will obviously be somewhat marred by his legal issues and PED suspension. McGregor is great but just got his titles and has plenty of defenses to go to be considered on the level of Fedor.
When
Gsp definitely belongs in a list with guys like Anderson, jones, fedor, and penn. he's the goat WW already. And I am not a gsp fan
I put GSP as #1 but realistically Jones is the GOAT at this point. He has NEVER lost.
He comes back and wins and he's back as the king.
Hogzilla - GSP is already the goat. He's undisputed, the most well rounded, hasn't been popped for cheats unlike Anderson.
Winning the title back after such a long layoff will only force the haters to acknowledge.
lol i always forget about the boner pills..maybe im just trying to forget
He's already the GOAT.
You have to break the GOAT down by weight class. That's the only way to do it.
But if he does win his belt back, you can make an exception for him as the GOAT in the history of the worlds!
He already is the goat
I won't be surprised if he does but Woodley is a nightmare first fight back
I think he takes a tune up fight with Nick...makes the most sense for both fighters and the ufc
Fabes -

It's really difficult to determine the GOAT for these reasons. It gets to a point - looking at most impressive accomplishments - where you just start splitting hairs:
DJ: Benavidez x 2, Dodson x 2
Aldo: Frankie Edgar x 2, Chad Mendes x 2, Urijah Faber
GSP: BJ Penn x 2, Matt Hughes x 2, Jon Fitch, Carlos Condit
Anderson: Chael x 2, Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin x 2, Forest Griffin (all finishes)
Jones: Cormier, Gus, Shogun, Rashad, Machida, Glover, Rampage
Fedor: Nog x 2, Cro Cop, Sylvia, 10 years undefeated
I mean, you can parse those lists any ways you'd like, but those are your GOATs.
GSP winning the belt back would be incredible for a variety of reasons and definitely adds to his case.

You wouldn't put Nick Diaz and Jake Shields on GSP's greatest accomplishments?
imo GSP is the GOAT, he's fought the hardest competition and went on a crazy streak of rounds won all against top guys, yeah he didn't get many finishes but that goes to show how dominant he was when he was facing killers for 5 rounds and never lost a single round for a long time. Out struck strikers, out grappled grapplers, and put a high pace on for 25 minutes, he just doesn't have much power but that didn't stop him from being the best, he never needed to finish guys if he was to win a fight and that to me that goes to show how good he really is. Can't wait to see his come back, I think he's the only one capable of getting 3 belts.

I'm not sure the Nick Diaz GSP fought cared much about winning.
Shields should be on that list.
ThinkMMA -Out of the 3 he has the toughest opposition. I'd say he's already there career wise, anything else just elevates him more.
Fact
McGregor never defended a belt and shouldn't be on that list at all...
Jones went through a fairly impressive who's who of MMA on his streak..
That said Shogun came into his match with Jones at 3-2 and was on his downward slope of his career. Machida came in 1-2. Everyone GSP fought was coming in at the top of their game on win streaks.
BreakALegAndy! -Lol @ Fedor being in the top 3. Fedor not only ducked Chael this weekend but he has been ducking the entire UFC heavyweight division for years. Dan Henderson should have a better claim than Fedor.
Yeah: I remember that time Fedor ducked two former UFC heavyweight champions in a row. He was so scared of Andre and Big Tim that he KOed them in the first - coward! He should have fought them for longer.
Oh, and I remember the time he made Barnett - another former UFC HW champion - fail a drug test so they wouldn't fight.
Oh, and when he fought and beat future UFC interim HW champion Minotauro. He purposely only fought him in his prime, rather than when he was UFC LEVEL.
COWARD.

Jones has the best "list" in my opinion. But you're right: many of his best wins were guys on the tail end of their careers.
That said, for Machida and Shogun, both of the records you cite include losses to each other - so that's kind of cheap. And while Machida lost the Rampage fight, he absolutely would have won if it were five rounds. That was a weird fight.
What solidifies Jones is that he beat Daniel Cormier - who, in a world without Jones, is the probably the best fighter to ever compete at LHW.
wiggum -Add Diaz, Hendricks (I know controversial depending on opinion), Shields, Kos and Alves were on winning streaksFabes -

Besides Hardy, everyone GSP beat were undefeated or on winning streaks
