Jose Aldo was the first UFC featherweight champion, defended it successfully seven times, and hadn't lost in over a decade. Conor McGregor took him out in 13 seconds, and a number of figures in the MMA community have called for an immediate rematch, particularly given the Ronda Rousey was granted one when she lost.

Michael Bisping and Kenny Florian discussed the subject during an episode of UFC Now.

"No! It's hard to justify." said Florian, as transcribed by Anton Tabuena for BE. "Even if Jose Aldo has been champion for so long, it is difficult to justify a rematch after a 13 second fight. The other issue, if we're going to get logistical here, is that Jose Aldo hasn't been the healthiest of fighters. He's not the most reliable of fighters. So to go set up a rematch against a guy who hasn't been the most consistent heath-wise, is a very risky thing to do."

"And the other thing is, Conor, that may have been his last fight at 145 lbs. He's huge for the weight class, and as you see, anything he lands, he's destroying people with. It's possible we see him again at 145, but we don't know."

"I think with what Frankie Edgar has done, it should be Edgar.

A laughing Bisping said he was swayed by the argument.

"This is why Kenny, you get paid the big bucks and you commentate for Fox and the UFC," he said jovially. "I was going to say 'Yes! He should get a rematch, because Ronda Rousey is getting one and why shouldn't he after being dominant for so long?' But, after hearing your pitch, I was like 'this guy talks a lot of sense! I completely agree!' And I've never heard myself saying that about you before! No, offense."

"No, he doesn't (deserve it)."

Next up, the case for.

Only people who want an Aldo rematch are forum nerds and Brazilian cheaters.

Look, I'm against ANYONE getting an immediate rematch... And I believe its for the good of the champion who lost it. But the way the UFC and their cronies have been putting down Aldo has been right down disrespectful. Phone Post 3.0

Another point is that an immediate rematch might not be good for his own good, he needs time to regroup, get another fight, a win, regain confidence, and then challenge Conor again.

Is not like Aldo is too old and it's now or never...there's plenty of time, and the same should apply to Ronda.

I'm confused, which one of these are you accusing Matt Brown of being? Phone Post 3.0

Gustaffon fights for the title coming off a loss. All those title fights urijah, sonnen and belfort got. Sooo.......why does aldo dont deserve the rematch. The first ever ufc featherweight champion doesnt deserve it???? Phone Post 3.0

To editor: aren't you required by law to write down the author of each article?
Even the shittiest gossip magazines write down the author's name.

1. Are you trying to avoid any legal follow ups by not writing the name of whoever writes articles on your websites?

2. Or is it just lack of effort to do so?

Aldo does not deserve a rematch. Got knocked out in 13 seconds. Edgar is the only right answer at 145 Phone Post 3.0

Its all about $$$$.. Coming from someone who has a background in sports promotions, this is a VERY hard sell. This would be the 3rd time in a row they have promoted this fight. Lets say Aldo wins.. then it will be the 4th time in a row promoting the same fight. Factor in how often Aldo pulls out of fights, and the length of the last fight.. VERY VERY hard sell.

I am not a Rousey fan < nor an Aldo fan>.. but her rematch is also about $$. They are cashing her chips in for one more fight, i dont see RR taking any other fight except a rematch.. This fight makes sense for the $$$$.. Every one wants to see RR get her block knocked off again or see the former champ rise. You could also argue how she has ran through the comp. Aldo's legacy is what it is, he was not defending the title as often as RR and he wasn't winning in dominating fashsion like RR. Rousey like it or not, is an icon of the sport.. if not THE icon of the sport. There is big money to be made with this rematch ( the reason HH has been put on the shelf for it.. you dont want her injured or losing).. Aldo/Conor.. not so much right now.. This fight will have to be built again.

Uncle Dana got out of the not making $$$ biz a long time ago.

The stupidest thing I ever heard as a fighter and combat sports fan for 45 years. Trash talk has its roots in fighting ever since Bob Fitzsimmons at the turn of the century doing the exact same thing as Mcgregor, telling the media how he will KO, and when he will Kayo the other guy. Get in their heads, and actually visualize and believe your own trash talk. It's really just garbage. Words. As a fighter, You don't pay attention to it ever. Max Schmeling in the twenties, Joe Louis in the 30s,Sugar Ray in the 50s, and of Course Cassius Marcellus Clay in the 60s, and the same Clay as Ali in the 70s, and Roy Jones, Duran , Leonard, Mayweather and basically everybody since ...to sell fights, and work yourself up,and intimidate the other guy. It is all just words. Bullshit. Don't pay no heed to it. If you do, you are an idiot. If you listen and observe it, like Aldo did then you deserve to be kayoed in 13 seconds like Aldo did. It looked like Aldo was about to shit himself out of fear before the Mcgregor fight. Rousey was scared because Holm did not pay heed to anything outside the octagon. Too, Holm is just so big, and built. Rousey tried to close the distance on Holm, actually running at her on a couple instances. She did not try to box her, she tried valiantly albeit to close the distance and get Holm to the mat. Dana heard something about Holm's ground game improving, or the Fertitta's saw clips of her, or something happened... that involved Holm's camp. They really tried to expedite Holly into a fight with Rousey. This was early in the summer. The whole Miesha-Rousey cancellation in the middle of their respective fight camps smacks of it. They tried to hurry Holm into the octagon quickly, and to boot moved the fight up to mid November from January. It was too late, obviously. Holm was ready. I didn't see it. Was hoping they'd wait a couple more fights at least. We all underestimated women's boxing. Chael threw out how he thought Holm was a paper champion with zero to back up her titles. I think Rogan hyped Rousey to the point of having her and her coach on his podcast, and crowning her the best in human history... so much so that he was instrumental in driving the nail into Rouseys coffin. Joe Rogan killed Rousey. He got it in her head how invincible she is in standup, and everything else. In short talk is cheap, don't listen to it. Aldo shitting himself over Mcgregor was ludicrous. Holm had Rousey beat long before the fight. From the first staredown I knew Holm was in the hunt.

Aldo got smoked, no need for an immediate rematch with this one.

This. Champs get immediate rematches especially those that have legacies Phone Post 3.0

Minus 200,000 pay perviews average as champ. Frequently pulls out of fights. Got his lights put out in 13 seconds after nearly shitting his pants in sheer terror in the intros. Acted like a baby when it was over. Has not even a zero personality. It's in the negatives. Door knobs, and eggplants have more personality. No. No. No. No cash, no mash. Why would you even want him back as champ ? Even if he is the best ? That's the question. This is one the promoter ducks the champs from. He is dangerous, and good so don't let him anywhere near a title shot. Tell him he has to work his way back up...say in maybe 7 fights or so. Then like you did Miesha, pull his title shot and give it to some 8th ranked fighter.
