well if you wanna go by the math Chael took Bisping down 4/7 times in 3 rounds and took Silva down 3/7 times in 5 rounds. Both Bisping and Silva both got a takedown on Sonnen. Silva also sprawled on a takedown when he had Chael hurt and made him pull guard.
Silva's takedown defense is solid and he has some good switches he defends most takedowns with footwork and staying out of range. Bisping may have better pure defense but doesn't have the same footwork or ability to make his opponents pay when he defends a takedown.
Sonnen's real ability is to control his opponents on the ground once he gets them there. Lots of good wrestlers can get a couple takedowns in a 3 or 5 round fight, Sonnen just never lets them stand up. That is really the key, Silva and Bisping didn't have trouble with Chael because of his takedown ability, more his control on the ground once he got it there.
