Is Gunnar Nelson the first fighter to ...

Start juicing after the USADA era started.

I can't be the only person who noticed more muscle, less fat and the telltale TRAPS.

Yes ... I know that hard work and diet can lead to significant gains but for a pro training at his level to transform like this?

Getting humbled like he did by Maia can be difficult on a fighter's psyche. Perhaps he decided that the extra boost would be worth the risk as it might allow him to compete with the top 5.

I honestly logged on thinking that I wouldn't need to make a thread because there would already be 5 or 6 on this topic.

Thoughts?

Gunnar never did serious S&C or dieting. His focus was on technique and cardio. I think he felt he needed to change a lot after Maia.

When you first start weight training seriously, you can make dramatic improvements.

He started eating a piece of dark chocolate each night.

Oohs look, someone's physique is a little different from the last time we saw him.

Must be juice bra. Phone Post 3.0

I don't think he is on the juice Phone Post 3.0

Ehmmmm... No Phone Post 3.0

OP, do you work out? Serious question Phone Post 3.0

Maybe orange juice. Phone Post 3.0

CRE - He started eating a piece of dark chocolate each night.
So did OP's mom

Booooom Phone Post 3.0

This is what all fighters should look like, it always trips me out when I see fighters with regular bodies. All that training and they still look the same? I guess genetics plays a big part but so does diet and work ethic.

he looks sliced up tho and that was the best Gunnar ever, honestly he looked better then conor

Because he is better than Conor.

Looked more like skill then juice to me. Phone Post 3.0

S&c program and paying attention to diet. He's actually talked about a drop to 155 Phone Post 3.0

I do Phone Post 3.0

Op is beta soft. Phone Post 3.0

OP you write as if you have facts? It's character defamation without proof. Gunnar's legal team will be contacting you soon Phone Post 3.0

StocktonStickerSlap - Seriously though so anytime someone manages to get in better shape you're going to claim roids? I can tell you I've been around enough gyms in my life to tell Gunnar isn't on something. Phone Post 3.0
Anytime an athlete in their prime years develops more muscle, less fat and noticeably larger traps, in a relatively short amount of time I get suspicious.

"But he just started weight training." That's BS Phone Post 3.0

OtherGrooundDropIn - OP, do you work out? Serious question Phone Post 3.0
Yes. I lift and trane UFC Phone Post 3.0

Meh I hear what your saying OP and it crossed me mind but I think that there is 'noob gains' Phone Post 3.0

The same argument could be made for Roger Gracie too. I bet he didn't do a day of work in the weights room when he first started, instead focusing on mma skill acquisition and translating his bjj for mma, and just leaning down to middleweight where he looked shit. Now he is back at LHW and actually looks like he has done some weights. I had a similar transformation (albeit less veiny!) through doing cardio circuits, hiit training and training bjj 6 days a week and REAALLY sticking to a good diet. Got a six pack that was fairly visible, pecs got a bit bigger, traps and shoulders and arms all cut up. Dropped about 8kg but swapped a lot of fat with muscle too.

Gunni was always an undersized welterweight, and never looked like he did any form of weight based training, so it definitely could be just noob gains like I got.
