Is Jake Ellenberger out of his prime?

Or is Bryan barbershop just that damn good?

Like many fighters Jake Ellenbergers chin has not held up as well as his skills.

If you could give him a great chin he would be a world beater again.

Someone else who comes to mind is nate marquart. He has all the skills in the world, but if you cant survive even a light punch you cant compete.

since he retired after losing 9 of his last 11 fights, I’d say he’s out of his prime

I wonder how he kept getting fights? I just remember seeing him lose so many times but here he was again last night…wtf

When you're at 40+ pro fights, it takes a toll. Much respect to a guy who lived his dream.

Even if you are 21 years old, if you have been ko'd 1000 times, and gotten ready for over 40 fight camps......it's. over.

His prime was probably sometime around 2012 so yea, he’s well past it.

I actually thought he deserved a shot at GSP back around that time, after he KO’d Jake Shields. But GSP was on the shelf for a while and by the time he came back, Ellenberger had been KO’d by Kampmann and his career was on the slide.

^ Yeah Ellenbergers ability to take damage (both concussive and just straight up damage like nose breaks) seriously went out the window after the Kampmann fight. Its not even USADA with him.

I do hear that Jake has had some of the worst (yet least publicized) knee issues of any fighter though so that may have contributed.

Jake is one of those I always pulled against but have no idea why. He seems like a good dude every time I hear him interviewed. Best of luck to him in whatever he does next.

You are asking if hes out of his prime in 2018? ...Where the fuck have you been dude?

his prime was like 6-7 years ago.

Cool dude

That said.......his family and friends should not be letting him fight.

It's over Johnny

I honestly thought he’d flatline Barberena is round one.. Sad to see, Jakes given us some fucking highlights over the years, but I’m glad he retired. And no, Bryan isn’t that good..

No way, he's peaking.

Does the tin-man have a sheet metal cock?

Because he is a name and these days UFC doesnt give Bellator freebies.

Yes. He has been out of his prime for a couple of years now. Good warrior and it was fun to watch him

lol yes, he probably wouldn't have retired if not. He can't really compete in the UFC anymore...had some wars and been KO'd, which take a toll on you.

Bad way to look at it. The solution is not the ability to handle damage. He should be skilled enough to not take the punishment in the first place. No one is invulnerable to getting cracked. There’s a reason why Ellenbergers lights go out and his chin is low on the list.

Still in his prime.imo should rematch Robbie Lawler before he calls it a career
