Pretty much every Maori fella I know would take offence at being called a coconut but it seemed that others from different parts of the country had different experiences.

I'm a New Zealander and I studied Polynesian genetics at university.
Argue all you want, but Maori and other Polynesians are Asians. Polynesian migration is the most recent mass migration in human history. If you don't consider them Asians, you're not allowed to call Asians Asians - you have to call them Koreans, Japanese, Indonesians etc., since they diverged much longer than Maori.

There was no consensus. My experience with Maori’s (which would include step brothers and step-Dad cousins etc) is that it was like calling each other Fob or Pineapple.
