is the time right for mma in the NCAA?

no feeder system on earth beats NCAA division I,

I say the time is right, opinions?

No.

Sub grappling, yes.

They don't even have boxing.

JerseyJoeJitsu - Sub grappling, yes.

Oh, and I hereby nominate Quincy Rice to be the first commissioner. Would be a hoot.

Until Train Judo-

My heart says yes, title 19 says take your penis and go home.

The NCAA doesn't have to be involved. Somebody could take the reigns and organize an extensive club team system.

For MMA to be a sanctione NCAA sport, it actually would require the NCAA to be involved.  There are already MMA clubs, but they don't have the funding and recognition that that a sanctioned sport gets.

Title IX but I get your point.

UC Davis just dropped wrestling for that very reason.

Yeah, title 9, They say your memory is the first thing to go, so I guess I'm on my way.

Well of course the NCAA would have to be involved for it to be an "NCAA" sanctioned sport. Who didn't know that? But the NCAA will never sanction MMA. Never. If boxing never made it, MMA won't. Your best bet is to set up submission grappling as a club sport and spread it to as many major schools as possible. Start setting up meets and tournaments and show it can be done. Then sell the NCAA on the fact that you can offer as many women's scholarships in it as you do men's so you can get around title IX.

screw that

this is as dumb as the olympics idea

hubris, the only reason I like the Olympic idea is because its a strong central body regulating all amateurs. and IMO that means better amateurs, which means better pros.
There's no way in hell the NCAA would do this, even though they're super money hungry and it would probably generate some good revenue

If MMA makes it into college, it could further hurt wrestling.  Fortunately I don't see any way MMA would ever be an NCAA sport.

why is it so hard to get submission grappling going?

can't you just sell it as a different flavour of wrestling?

Yeah, if you want to hear annoying screaming bitches throughout the event...

I respect wrestling a ton but its a boring sport to watch and not making the schools any money, nor does it offer much after college for those elite wrestlers looking to pursue a pro career.

Replacing wrestling doesn't mean replacing wrestlers, they'll just move to mma, and if wrestling is their first love, they'll be wrestling based mma guys.

The Olympics would mean squat in comparison.

I am sure to those who know nothing about wrestling it is boring, but to people who know even a little bit about the sport, it is not boring.

oh that old argument

lol @ that cliche

Never gonna happen
