Volk fought Islam and immediately they created the interim belt. I hate interim belts. I’d rather let Volk slide for the 6 months rule since he just had a close fight with the champ a division above.

I agree. If you move up for two belts, it should be because you cleared the division. The way Conor did it was the worst.
That doesn’t mean I don’t think a fighter can’t move up and win. I just think if you’re the champ, you’re the most important fighter in that class. Don’t hold up a division unless there’s no one else that makes sense. Not that it doesn’t make for compelling story lines but I just think about all the killers that have to wait(especially at LW) when a champ lobbies for a fight out of the weight class. Islam has one defense. There’s PLENTY of LWs that make for interesting matches against him. Charles2, JG, Dustin should be his focus. He’s still young enough to clear the division and move up later. I think he sees Leon as an easy target and I’m not sure he’s right. Leon is pretty big at welterweight. He’s had nothing but wrestling training to deal with Usman who is much bigger than Islam. I’m not saying I’m certain Leon wins but I think Islam will be surprised with how good Leon’s defense is. The last thing you want in a fight is to be surprised.
