Khabib made his UFC debut vs a wrestler.
Its not really Islam’s fault that there are not eleven former NCAA champs in the current UFC LW division. There was one but he stopped fighting a couple years ago.
I’m not saying he has the best resume ever, I’m saying you can’t dismiss his resume the way some people do and if you are talking skills in 2024… he is not a bad pick for P4P #1.
I just see a difference between P4P based on career and P4P in the moment this year.
Again the reason he he fought “the FW GOAT” in his last fight was because the #1 contender from his division pulled out.
RDA and Dariush had to pull out of fights vs Islam on his way to the title and somehow people held it against Islam.
An UGer told me he didn’t want Islam to get a title shot because he didn’t know any of his opponents besides Hooker. So this guy didn’t know who Tsarukyan or Davi Ramos were and still wanted to think his perspective held weight or was rational. Some of Islams haters are just casuals who want to hate Islam for being associated with Khabib and being from Dagestan

Khabib beat the current 2,3,10,11 ranked LW’s even though he retired three years ago and still it gets spun as he ducked a fictional “new wave”.
Khabib retired when he wanted while undefeated and his haters just can’t handle it and they further hate the fact his training partner now holds the belt and his cousin holds the second most prestigious LW title as well and is young and undefeated.
You will never be able to reason with them.
I wanted to see Khabib vs Oliveira for Khabib’s 30th fight as much as anyone but Khabib owes nobody nothing and was entitled to retire when he wanted to.
Whether you end your career like GSP or Khabib or go out like Anderson or Tony there will be critics on the internet. Fighters just can’t win in the eyes of some fans with how they choose to retire.

First: I agree that Khabib isn’t an all time great. At least not in the top 7 maybe 10.
However, Chandler hadn’t even fought in the UFC and had just been knocked out by Pitbull. Dariush best win at the time Khabib left was Kevin Lee. Oliviera was right in the middle of his 11 fight win streak so good call out there. The Ferguson fight had been lined up like 5 times. Sometimes Khabib didn’t make it, sometimes Ferguson didn’t make it, sometimes Covid.

IMO Islam’s best win is smashing the streaking Oliviera.
Khabib beat everyone in his division except for Oliviera. They tried many times to make the Ferguson fight. I don’t think his quality of opponent is bad at the end of his career. I rank him where I do because he didn’t completely clean it out.
