it's safe to say the Gomi experiment is over

I was as excited as anybody to see Gomi debut. I watched him for years look amazing. You ever watch the PRIDE 2005 Lightweight Grandprix? (Sep 25th, 2005) His fights with Kawajiri & Azeredo were incredible, BOTH of them!

But times have changed. He's not the same 'Fireball Kid' anymore. He's 1-3 in his last b4 fights. His UFC losses have been terrible. Not razor close split decision losses but him 'getting the shit beaten out of him' type losses. He was stopped in all 3 UFC losses (1 armbar & 2 chokes).

I dont know what happens from here with him but I'll always be a fan.

I was a huge fan but he's been mediocre for quite some time now. He no longer has the passion for the sport.

That's bs. Gomi was mediocre his entire career. What has changed is the level of his opponents. Phone Post

You might be right but he sure was spectacular when he was winning.

To me, Gomi hit the LW division moments before the talent explosion. As much as he got passed up, he was still the undisputed LW champion of the world at one point in his career. Gomi's name suffers the backlash of overhyping, which is probably deserved, but you can't dispute the fact that at one point in MMA history, he was the best in his respective weight class.

There is always the BJ Penn argument... but, he wasn't actively fighting at LW when Gomi made his run.

There's always undisputed 3

You know, that game where they cut exciting fighters and replace them with fighters the already beat? Phone Post

Do you always have to be such a fucking prick?

It's just a sport and these are real people you're talking about.
Yeah, he is pretty consistent with his prickishness!

He stopped giving a fuck, started training with kids instead of seriously training and that's why he isn't any good anymore. He was woefully unprepared for the Diaz fight and already beaten by Aureleio.

he's only got a punchers chance now

This thread is about 4 years late.

Most people forget the beating BJ gave him in his "prime"

Please, Paul Daley is the red headed step child of Kenny Florian. Talk about a guy who also loses big fights...his best win over the last 5 years is Martin Kampmann. Let's not make him into some top 10 WW just because he fought Koscheck.

he's only been in the UFC since 2010 genius

I think he meant that 4 years ago was the last time Gomi was relevant... no disrespect to him.

Comforting to know my very basic point wasn't lost on all.

Gomi's been mailing it in for years.

Everyone is when facing crap competition. Look at nick Diaz.

what?

diaz just fought and finished the best striker at ww

who had just lost a ufc title eliminator
What? That doesn't even make sense.... How can Paul Daley be the best striker at WW if he KTFO by Nick Diaz? Oh, and he got a free punch at koscheck and still couldn't hurt him.

Look at how he fought Kawajiri, then look at his recent fights. There was a time when he didn't just stand there winging haymakers. Unfortunately, that seems to be all he chooses to do now. The same thing happened to Jens and to Diego.

In his ufc debut against Kenflo he looked like he wasn't even trying to win. It looked like he didn't want be there in the cage that night. He clearly doesn't have the same passion he once had and his skills have eroded as well. The competition has gotten alot better as well. He should go back to fighting in Japan for Dream or retire.

but the TRT experiment is just getting started. within three years you will see TRT, HGH, divisions in baseball, football, bowling, dodgeball, and marbles. just watch.

i think its gonna be funny when you cant tell a third grade marbles champion from mr. olympia when you see them on the street.

its gonna suck for bouncers and school bullies.

thanks Phael
