I've given up on definitive calls in MMA

Everybody always steps up in the big fights. Everybody always does better than we thought they could do.

Gus was supposed to be a victim, turns out he made all of Jon's future fight's interesting by showing that Jon isn't untouchable.

I think Jon will win tonight but fuck saying 'Jon is going to DESTROY'.

Just fuck that....we have no idea who's going to show up on Glover's side....

The problem I have with that comparison, is I was constantly defending Gus to my friends and family lol

I thought Gus hadn't fought sufficient opposition to be an even betting line since the LH division is so woefully top heavy now that it's become filled with aging stars, not unlike the HW division, but his skill set was always there. I mean it was like no one remembered Gus had an incredible Ammy boxing background, the reach and footwork to match Jones, and a TDD rate that was just under or at 90% IIRC

Glover on the other hand has a style not too dissimilar from Liddell in that he has terrible plodding footwork and often relies on heavy power shots -- either brawling or headhunting in a manner that carries serious defensive deficits. But unlike Lidell, he doesn't seem to have an absurdly granite chin and won't be going against grappling-centric GnP fighters with poor reach and no idea how to throw straights lol.

If he got rocked by Bader, he can be rocked by Jones imo, and he's just so damn immobile, I can't even fathom him getting around Jones reach advantage unless Jones really fucks around and plays into his game, and even then Glover has rarely shown good ring-manship imo and isn't that great at cutting ppl off when they don't play right into his hands

Whereas I felt Gus was unproven, but represented everything a fighter would need stylistically to top Jones, Glover seems the opposite and, as they say, styles make fights...

1) Short Reach -- Check

Which is hard to overcomes due to

2) Less use of angles and footwork, Incredibley Immobile and Unable to Corner effectively -- Check

Which will make the inevitable shitstorm moving in tough since he carries

3) Serious defensive liabilities technique wise -- Check

An issue only worsened by

4) Mortal Chin -- Check

(Not at all chinny as Bader did tag him hard and Glover showed he can pull through, but I haven't seen him nomnomnom shots like I've seen Hunto, or young Shogun, or young Hendo, or Condit or AS...etc)

Then again, I would've never guessed Vitor could rock out as hard as he did, so what the fuck do I know? I'll probably look like a faggot when some guy bumps this and you end up being correct lol But I can't see this as ending any way other than Jones via TKO or quick KO from Glover (but that would surprise the shit out of me)

Solid post. Still scared that Glover studied Gus enough to land that punch. You know Hackleman researched that fight like a Professor.

I think if there's any fight you could bet on Bones being at his best it's this one though. Phone Post 3.0

Glover has a punchers chance but if Jon fights smart, this will be a good night for him.

These guys are at such a high level and they have a lot of time to study each other, so I kind of agree with what you're saying. However, I think Jones will be on a mission tonight and finish Texiera.

Besides, Jones vs. Gus II would be an epic rematch that would have everyone on the edge of their seat.
