Jack Slack: The Fall of Renan Barao

http://fightland.vice.com/blog/the-fall-of-renan-barao

This article could've easily been called The Rise of T.J. Dillashaw, because it dissects him as much, if not more than Barao. Required reading for the fan of MMA technique.

I believe Dillashaw, Cruz, McGregor and a few others are pioneering the future of MMA striking. I love that these guys are challenging the status quo and creating new frontiers. Can't wait to see the next generation further implement their styles, but in the meantime, one of them gets to showcase and prove himself again this weekend.

Cheers.

"Truly exceptional fighting skill is not about power or speed but rather about deception. Beautiful boxing, kickboxing, fencing, wrestling, tennis—it's all the same, all smoke and mirrors. It's in movements which amount to nothing but on reflection change everything. In Dillashaw's case, less amounted to more. He showed Barão a handful of feints for every real blow he attempted and the Brazilian made a fool of himself setting or throwing his weight into counters for strikes which never came. Frustrating an opponent provides and enormous edge. Convincing him not to even bother swinging a counter when he otherwise would is half way to winning the fight."

Isn't the guy looking for hits? Nice you're drawing attention to his article, but shouldn't copy and past the whole thing IMO. Phone Post 3.0

You make a good point. I'd seen it done before, so I figured it ok, but I'll delete the posts.

Good stuff as always jack, I'm intrigued to see the adjustments both make for the rematch, have a feeling Barao will nullify more of dillashaws movement and catch him with a flurry, Phone Post 3.0

I guess we could just ask him since he's in the thread. Phone Post 3.0

Huge fan of yours, Jack. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight.

Would you kindly answer one question for me... Who are your current top 3 strikers in MMA?
