Can any gym nerd tell me if this is little weird?
Coach doing some of the work?
To me... That was really strange. I wouldn't be sure of the point of this. Maybe to just keep Jake moving and help cut weight... If it was really for boxing training it'd make him lazy, not learn range, and really I don't think his arms and shoulders would be used to throwing punches like he'd have to in a real fight.
I'm about to text one of the best in the biz for boxing training and ask him his opinion for you bro.
In for knowledge
That does look pretty odd. Jake's arms are hardly extending at all.
^ I'm excited to see The Viking's next post. Awesome first response to a thread.

It looks like they are just going over new mitt work sequences to me.
It's weird when you just start working with a new coach/or fighter (for both the fighter and the coach) as each mitt guy has a certain sequence/pattern/ to holding, and you have to know what each command is before you really "work" hard. Once the fighter and coach are on the same page it can get really fun, but again, it takes a while to get there.
Weird
It says this is after a 2 hour workout, he's just exhausted.

Did look weird to me
You guys never seen Floyd hit pads?
just a defensive workout.
punch the punch as it comes toward you. use forearms to cover the body, then throw 1 punch back. plus he was always stepping backwards. the trainer was always stepping forward. trains him to keep the hands up, even when he was tired. (this was after a 2 hour workout, right) he had him touch the pad over his head. hard to do when your arms are dead.
your used to seeing the offensive workouts. lots of combos, with lots of footwork. inside outside range movement for a 3 or 5 minute drill.
rorys left jab pretty much shut that idea down in last nights fight. since jake had the shorter range, he had needed to get the inside clinch. but that jab kept him outside the whole fight.
luiz dorea seems to do a lot of work when hes holding for JDS, sometimes
Not to the same extent as this vid though
seems like he's trying to learn the combos, looking at his expression he seems a little confused.
