The news was first revealed to ESPN by Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian.
“Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional fight that would have a definitive outcome,” Bidarian said. “Over the past six weeks, MVP has worked with its partners to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to sanction Paul vs. Tyson, and we are grateful that we have gotten to this point.”
The news means that the result of the Netflix main event on July 20 in Arlington will reflect on the pro records of Paul and Tyson, whose heavyweight bout is set for eight, two-minute rounds to be contested using 14-ounce gloves.
For Tyson, the fight will mark his first appearance in the squared circle since an exhibition against fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. back in 2020. Professionally, it will be the 57-year-old’s first match in over 19 years.
Paul, meanwhile, has amassed a 9-1 record as a pro, largely defeating mixed martial arts veterans such as Anderson Silva and Nate Diaz before most recently getting the better of two low-level pro pugilists in Andre August and Ryan Bourland.
“The Problem Child” has come under strong criticism for his latest choice of opponents, with the former Disney star set to enter the ring over three decades younger than his upcoming foe.

I don’t think enough people realize how much of a ruthless killing machine Mike Tyson is. In the ring he is not a pleasant or fun person to be around. If he had been told during his career he had to kill somebody to win, he would have done it without hesitation. Just a whole different mentality than Jake Paul has.
That’s great and all but he’s nearly 60 now. Everyone involved in this should be arrested. Sooner or later this shit will end in tears.
