Jon Fitch Q&A Friday

Apparently 50 minutes was all he could spare for us.

Back to Twitter to "directly interact" with the fans.

Boilerbrawn, I am disappoint. Phone Post 3.0

Seems like this convo stopped dead with the testosterone question.. Phone Post 3.0

I'm glad he established what ice always figured..

The MYTH of posters ruined the UG and fighters don't visit anymore because of us.

Forums are increasingly antiquated in general and fighters prefer, like many celebrities and athletes, Twitter and other social media outlets. Phone Post 3.0

I'm guessing it's the old throw it under the rug and hope everyone forgets technique. Dude looked juiced to the gills during last night event when they interviewed him. Phone Post 3.0

Damn man, he kinda blew those questions off. This was a very disappointing q&a.

Jon, you're talking about interacting directly with the fans but you have 3 of your biggest fans right here and 2 of us didn't get out questions answered.

Then, my boy medic clearly has great questions and wants updates and you give him very short, single line answers.

Kind of messed up Jon. Not gonna lie, it's dissapointing as a fan.

Maybe the UG should do Q&A's with people that actually give a shit.   Like Robin Black or Elias or someone like that.  They would probably stay in here doing answers for hours.

Yeah, I dunno. Normally I'd say he was having a bad day or something but those answers were more along the lines of "I don't care".

The Power Double - - What do you think is the single biggest problem with the UFC in the way it treats the fighters and/or approaches the sport?

- What do you make of King Mo's comments that MMA still isn't a pure sport because the competitors are pressured into fighting in a certain way and rewarded for recklessness?

Thanks Jon! You're a beast mate Phone Post 3.0

its a monopoly, fighters should have more open ended contracts so they can play the market and go to highest bidder. also promotions are match makers and give rankings, too much control. need 3rd party rankings and outside matchmaking.

king mo is spot on. being exciting should only effect your paycheck and sponsors. should not keep you from advancing from winning. no other sport works like that.

I know I am in the minority here, but I disagree with the open ended contracts.

The vast majority of fighters are unknown to the general public. a large majority of fighters are unknown to most MMA fans before they make it to the UFC. Only the hardcores, which is a small percentage, really know about the up and coming fighters and guys who dominate smaller promotions.

So the fighters make it to the UFC and they have this enormous platform. The UFC has made an investment and yes the fighters have worked hard (usually; CM Punk) to get there, but their value comes from the exposure they get fighting for a global company that has promoted them to the masses. A young Jon Fitch fighting for his local promotion isn't going to command much money no matter how great of a fighter he is because he isn't bringing in the money because the promotion doesn't have that kind of reach. But when that same young Jon Fitch makes it to the UFC gets that exposure and becomes known to the masses, it is because the UFC provided a platform for him to showcase his talents. Without the UFC, that young Jon Fitch doesn't have millions of fans that he then can capitalize on when he negotiates with another promotion.

So why should the UFC provide that platform, provide that exposure, only then for the fighter to use that to make money from another company?

Don't bother, Rantuckjr, he barely showed up for this Q&A and didn't even answer all the questions.

For a guy like Fitch that barely has fans to begin with and is now on an even smaller stage at the tail end of his career you would have thought he would have tried to capitalize on a captive audience as best he could and spent a bit more time here interacting and trying to build up or keep his dwindling fan base.  No loss here as while I respect what he's accomplished with his shut down game I've always looked at his fights as a piss break, was only checking in to see if any good questions got answered.  Guess not.

Self entitled cry babies in here.

And what MYTH, malvert?

Most fighters were long gone before you ever showed up, including jon.

Dude bounced after the steroid question ; cant imagine why.

Go back to being a self appointed mouthpiece of the UG . Only dude i know who spends hours white knighting a forum seeking affirmation from strangers. Jon fitch has shit to do besides ug all fucking day. Phone Post 3.0

I thought the same thing. He was yoked.

But the nonsense that we chase fighters off is just that.

They'd rather be on Twitter and reach many than be here interacting with few.

We already are fans.

There isn't anything to gain here.

On Twitter you potentially can reach a new audience Phone Post 3.0

Fitch was the target of countless threads over the years complaining about his style. Fitch started to win people's heart back with his "broke Fitch" fight but ultimately people continued to bash him. I get it that he doesn't post here anymore.

Dan Henderson used to get shit on non-stop here until he ko'd bisbing and then everyone forgot. Overnight he went back to hero status.

Even though Fitch didn't answer my questions- I'm still a fan. If the questions I asked were that important- he basically said go to Twitter and ask him. Mine weren't so I'll move on. Phone Post 3.0

There's nothing self entitled about expecting answers on a Q&A thread.

Personally I think the way fighters interact with fans is everything.

Look at Conor McGregor, guy is a huge star and still takes extra time to talk to fans, take pictures, and sign autographs. Instead of acting like it's a burden and giving short answers and then bouncing as soon as someone asked a legit question about ped's.

TFK_Tom O'Bedlam - Damn man, he kinda blew those questions off. This was a very disappointing q&a.

I agree. Didn't seem like he gave a shit at all. Phone Post 3.0

OriginalTUFer - Fitch has probably gotten the least out of this sport compared to what he put in. With his dominance, work ethic, and good nature, he deserved to be respected, well compensated, and celebrated. Instead, he's gotten bashed for years, cut several times, and will likely be forgotten.

It doesn't surprise me at all that he's got a bad taste in his mouth. Phone Post 3.0

Not to mention all the wins he had in a row without another title shot. I was hoping he would have spent a little more time answering questions, but what are you gonna do....

I wasn't so much shitting on Fitch as I was the organization of a Q & A for someone that wasn't really committed to it.  When there are many people in the sport who would be.

2 hours late, barely answered questions, bailed in under an hour. Not even a single thanks.

Pretty unimpressed. And I literally used to look up to him back in the day. He gave zero fucks. Definitely changes the way I look at him. Too bad. Phone Post 3.0

I looked up to saku as a young fighter. He doesnt owe me shit for it.
In fact, i owe him for the inspiration and time.

Dude gave you an hour of his time. Be grateful. How much time of his does your fandom and admiration entitle you to, exactly ?

And the time of QA was never definite, so how was he two hours late ? You really had to reach for that one, too, but zealousy prevailed! Youre twisting the narrative here to villify the guy.

Youre a good poster, mountain, so no insolence intended -- but i dont think jon is much affected by whether or not youre still a fan of his.

And why else share the thought, esp. After the false narrative? Phone Post 3.0
