Jon Jones' first hater in MMA? (VID)

I'm sure plenty of you have already seen this but this is where it all started for Bones. His first pro bout. He had the balls to do something most of us will only dream about - step into a cage with a pro fighter.

As you can tell one of the commentators does not like Jones. He pins his criticism on JBJ's gesture after the suplex, and although it could be seen as cocky and dishonourable, I think this is the first documented example of an unwarranted level of hate for the future champ. He also seems to imply the kick at the end was dirty as Apollo RD pointed out, even though the ref hadn't stepped in.

Does he have a point in your opinion? Does he go over the top? Is it jealousy? Something else?

Well you are right that's definitely his first hater lol from his point of view tho I would agree with that being cocky and I probably would react similar to seeing a kid do that in his debut. That being said it is shocking how dominate he was even in his very first pro bout regardless of his opponent being 0-2. Phone Post 3.0

It did come off a bit cocky for a debutant but I have a few thoughts:

1) A lot of fighters have an element of showmanship to their style, eg Anderson, the Diaz brothers, Rashad, Uncle Creepy.

2) Is it possible Jones thought he might have ended the fight with that suplex? The dude was badly stunned.

3) Regardless of Jones putting his arm up momentarily, whether it was a celebration of the suplex, a reaction to the crowd or a mistake because he thought the fight was over, that commentator was a hater. He ignored what was an insane debut and instead put Jones (a stranger on debut) on blast, attacked his character and ethics and didn't want to take his foot off the throat lol. Phone Post 3.0

Haha I like this one:

"A first-round TKO by Jon Jones! Mark, was that impressive or what?!"

"You know, I'm not really quite sure what happened there. It looks like he may have injured himself. Ah, you know, how did the, ah, the victory come here?"

Awesome commentator. Gee I don't know mate, maybe it was the bit at the end where he suplexed him, beat his head in then kicked the shit out of him.

Here are the comments in question. The fight lasted 1:30 and Jones (20 years old) looked amazing. He briefly puts his hand up after a suplex and the commentator begins:

"Definitely a great suplex here, but he's showing a little cocky behaviour there, you know, raising his hand a little too soon."

"Yes, it definitely was, ah, it looks like he was kind of a sore sport here. He needs to learn some, ah, you know, some cage etiqutte here."

"Yeah, maybe some traits (of his favourite fighter Anderson Silva), but definitely not his sportsmanship here tonight, folks. I know that you're emotions kind of get the best of you and he's walking over right now to give him some props here, but, you know, I think it's cocky behaviour. I think he should leave that outside the ring before he gets in here."

Meanwhile Jones wins his pro debut, checks on his opponent and shakes his hand.

hilarious commentary , come on guys

It seems strange that such a great guy seems to rub nearly everyone he meets the wrong way.

It must be that 90% of people are just haters. Phone Post 3.0

Commentator implied that kick was late? Ref didn't look to have made any move to stop the fight, am I wrong? Phone Post 3.0

So in other words...if combined...you get 2 BJ's

I wonder what those commentators think of A. Silva during his hey day of showing up fighters in the cage.

I love how he spends the whole time trashing Jones after the suplex but he gets off on the idea of his opponent being a self-proclaimed bar room brawler Phone Post 3.0

Those commentators were terrible. They seemed to miss the story from the fight.

It's fun watching Jones from back then though.

It reminds me of watching him put a clinic on bonnar and thinking he might be the next big thing. Phone Post 3.0

Those suplexes are crazy the first time you see them. Especially if you didn't grow up in a country with a wrestling background Phone Post 3.0
