Biggest “I’m him” moment in ufc history

I remember picking JBJ to win but I thought he’d wins a decision. I thought he’d play it safe and wrestle fuck him. Turned out to be perhaps the biggest ass whooping in title fight history

As a shogun fan I often wonder if the fight woulda been any different if it were prime shogun or even in Pride and honestly… I don’t think it’s much different. Shogun just couldn’t touch his chin. And any kicks he throws he’s getting taken down as a result

I also remember telling my friend’s dad who was watching with us that Jones is wild and creative… then he opened the fight with a flying knee lol. Damn

That was the hungriest, most sober and dedicated Jones. He was on a mission to be the youngest champion and too poor to be on coke every day

Hoping to see this same version of him against Gane now

Prime Shogun, in Pride? I’m not saying Shogun wins (he wins) but absolutely that fight would have been different.

Hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which one fills up first.

How? How does he touch jones’ chin. How does he out grapple him from off his back

I just don’t see it

shogun coming off of 3 knee surgeries and having an up-and-down run in the UFC, I picked Jones to win as well. He was like a videogame character at the time. Just ridiculous.

Shogun has said that the initial flying knee landed flush and he spent the rest of the fight trying to not get finished.

Shogun was soooo much more explosive in Pride than he was in the UFC. It’s not unreasonable to think he could land a kick or knee. His athleticism allowed for much more creative attacks at that point in his career. How does he outgrapple him from off his back? The same way he outgrappled Randleman (RIP) from off his back.

Keep in mind j’m just an average Joe like everyone else here. That definitely was an underperforming over the hill Shogun fighting. he was broken down and far removed from his Prime fighting capability. One man’s Sunset is another man’s Dawn that’s the fight game. The fact he was still competitive in the UFC says a lot about how good he was in Pride. That actually applies to a bunch of the pride guys who all had to adapt to the ufc format and everything that entails.

Not only ^that but Jones still had to use his patented “stop or I’ll poke” bitchassness about the only time Shogun tried any offense.

Really? Are you a newb who just started watching MMA last year?

Jones beat the complete fuck out of a 3 weight classes smaller Shogun ON THE GROUND, but that fight was no where near the biggest whopping in title fight history. It probably wasnt even the most dominant fight of that year lol

Off the top of my head I can list several which were far bigger more dominant total ass whoppings

Dillashaw over Renan

Conor over Alvarez

Weidman over Anderson 1

Machida over Rashad

Etc etc etc

Err the same way he did in their fight

By making Jones come to him, jabbing with his jab, and shooting over his jab (Jones has terrible hand positioning, drops his jabhand, never comes back to guard, and or takes out of positioning with stiff arms)
ezgif-3-b8ba97bf3d

Shogun fought Jones all wrong. There was zero tape on Jones at the time. Shogun didnt know what approach to take and ending up fighting the worst gameplan he could

Shogun has always had terrific counter punching and beautiful timing off the jab. Shogun needed to lean into that

Shogun needed to make Jones come to him and counter over his jab/shoot with his stiff arms (body or head)

One way to take away a taller fighter’s reach is to make him come to you

Pulling him in with back steps, circling and walking him in, you make the taller fighter give up his reach to come to you

Just look to Shogun vs Osp 1, vs Shogun vs Osp 2, and the major difference gameplanning does

Gameplanning is everything (fighting is a game of inches - you wouldnt know that being the big newb you are)

When Shogun persued Osp, Osp got him trying to punch in (how Shogun fought Jones) - thats a big no no.

When Shogun made Osp come to him (back steps, fients to muddy timing, kicking out Osp’s legs when not in range to punch and to draw Osp in) Shogun was the one destroying Osp off the counter, by outside slipping or squatting the 2s off the leadhands and coming up with counter combos on Osp all night long. Shogun wrecked Osp in the rematch by having the correct gameplan

Enjoy the breakdown @Six_Demon_Bag

The Osp vs Shogun rematch is how Shogun with the right gameplan wouldve beaten Jones (on the feet)

I dont know how many times ive had to educate your dumb newb ass

Why are you so stubborn?

You constantly say the biggest newb shit and think only your opinions matter or some shit

Some days I really do think you are nothing but the alternate account of @JackMerridew

You need to spend less time running your mouth with your deluded arrogance, and spend more time humbling yourself and learning - and humbly taking correction

None of those were as shocking.

I’d have to argue that Weidman/Silva was more shocking personally. Idk though.

I wasn’t that shocked Weidman won so much as how the figh thg went down.
