I think Jones' reach is greatly assisted by the fact that his most powerful tool is his takedowns and elbows. Thus, many stay at range to prevent being taken down and lit up with elbows. Jones then stands and uses his reach to pick guys apart.
Rashad is really the only guy that had a chance to try and out-wrestle Jones, but he never tried to wrestle. Eventually Jones picked him apart on the feet.
Unlike all others, Cormier will not be afraid of Jones' wrestling and the clinch. And may get the better of those exchanges. Thus, I see Cormier coming in way more than others because he has no fear of being taken down.
its a good point, but...
olympic level wrestlers have been taken down in mma
I think the size difference will make a big difference in who does better in the positional grappling. DC is much shorter so dont exactly see Jones shooting double legs on him but rather trying trips and throws from the clinch while DC might be able to get under his hips easier but could get out positioned against the fence due to the leverage points and height difference.
Very interested to see.
Bader and Hamill were both better credentialed wrestlers too. ...
Cormier has never fought anyone he would have had to work to outwrestle. He also hasn't fought anyone with Jones' reach, or Jones' ability to use it, or Jones' varied striking.
Sofa King Cool - It seems like he had trouble with Gus. I could be wrong.Yea because he didn't have the reach advantage
hewsdaddy - Bader and Hamill were both better credentialed wrestlers too. ...True, but not great mma wrestlers. Jones is as good as them. Cormier has wrestled much better than them against better competition.
ranier wolfcastle -Yes, but they can usually get up pretty easily.

great point OP. i think jones mention he didn't work as much on grappling as he did striking when facing gus due to gus reach + gus improved a lot on his grappling and got help from phil davis along the way. made me look up this video lol
and DC hasn't faced anyone he couldn't outstrike, DC has never had to show any heart (like Jones in Gus fight, Belfort fight etc). So what dude. Thread after thread about shit like this, but bottom line is, neither guy has faced a guy like the other, and neither guy has lost many rounds in their career, let alone a fight. We'll find out Saturday who the better fighter is.
my 2 cents, Jones has been much more consistently impressive. I've never been bored in any of Jones fights, and even in the fights that go the distance, he's doing damage and working all 5 rounds. I've seen DC look lazy in 3 round fights. He's looked very impressive, but there have been times I've been bored. Even in the Hendo fight, he was working, but it wasn't violent. In a fight people are calling a "destruction" or "total domination" he did very little damage. Jones lands more punches in one round than DC landed in the whole Hendo fight.
Will that make a difference? Who knows, but there have been many fights where I was saying "why the fuck isn't DC trying to hurt this guy?" He keeps talking about taking jones into deep water and drowning him, but I don't see it. The longer this fight goes, I think it favors Jones. I could see DC landing some bombs and hurting him early, but as this thing goes into rounds 4 and 5, I don't think he can keep up with Jon's pace. Jon has proven he's dangerous for 5 rounds. I'm not sure DC is.
Idk man Cormier is just fuckin relentless.
hewsdaddy - Bader and Hamill were both better credentialed wrestlers too. ...And hammil beat him your point?
Lol
Wtf you can say the same thing about dc.
Brandonbrazell - Wtf you can say the same thing about dc.
And dillahah, dj, wiedman and esparza
Or (dillahaw) i think woops
Double negative thread title
Should be:
Jones could outwrestle everyone he's faced.
Or
Jones hasn't faced anyone who could outwrestle him.
You're welcome
