Jose Aldo has more of a claim to GOAT than Khabib

Sadly I think Penn’s cardio would fail him in a fight against khabib. He’d have to catch him early and hurt him quickly

If Khabib was a gambler and was given a Billion Dollars but the stipulation was that he could only bet on Jose Aldo fights……. He would end up broke with 0 Dollars. And a coke habit.

Add Cejudo to that GSP/Khabib category, Cejudo did a lot and had some huge wins but retired at 33 with only 12 UFC fights. Lost two of those UFC fights but barely won three others via SD/UDs vs Formiga, Pettis and Johnson where a lot of people thought he lost those fights.

Its very difficult to compare a career like that to career of a guy like Hendo were Hendo had 5 more UFC fights than Henry plus he also had 17 PRIDE fights and 5 Strikeforce fights. Hendo had eighteen years at the elite level of MMA compared to Henry’s six.

Now THAT is the more interesting comparison imo

I think we all have Aldo over khabib. But whose higher between Henry and Khabib? Depends what you value more I suppose. Undefeated and 3 title defenses, vs. 2 belt holder with one title defense for both of them….

Khabib, IMO. Henry’s career was amazing and he is an underrated all-time great. But, he didn’t do enough to clear out a division and show that he was beyond a shadow of a doubt the best on Earth. By running through RDA, Conor, Dustin, and Gaethje, Khabib did that.

In general, I do agree, but it’s relevant in this case considering Lee is still very young in his career (29 years old), was cut for being largely inconsistent, and unprofessional (numerous divisional weight misses).

Let’s not forget how the deadly striker Leo Santos finished Kevin Lee as well.

It sounds like Lee was cut for a lot more reasons other than his fights and ability. Lee is represented by CAA who also represents Ngannou and Chookagian. Don’t think things are great between them and the UFC right now from the little I’ve read of the issue on twitter.

He won 2 out of his last 7 UFC fights. UFC + management issues don’t seem like they would have mattered, but fair point.

It’s not competitive at all. None of the guys Khabib faced had skillset that could challenge his. Conor has no wrestling and no BJJ, Dustin has no wrestling and no BJJ, RDA fights like Simple Jack most of the time, Edson has no wresting and no BJJ, Al is a to 20 fighter with a smidge of wrestling who managed to take Khabib to a decision on short notice.

Khabib’s legacy is based on being undefeated. He was undefeated because over half his fights were against who-the-fuck-is-that-guy and guys who did not have the skillset to reasonably compete with him. His reputation as a monster wrestler is also based on his opponents lack of wrestling and BJJ.

I have to disagree. There have been lots of guys at 155lbs who would have had a shot against Khabib. He just never faced them. Historically, BJ, Sherk, Giblert, Stevenson, Guida, Benson, Hellboy, Gomi, prime Diego, Karo, even Nick/Nate in the old days would have made it sporty. Contemporarily, Frankie, Chad, Oliveira, Gillespie, Chandler, Ferguson before he short-circuited would all have had a good chance.

None of these guys have MMA ground games. He can’t be the best unless he actually bested all sorts of fighters. GSP faced monster strikers and grapplers/wrestlers. So did BJ. So did Fedor and Wanderlei and Mighty Mouse and Saku and almost everyone else in contention for GOAT status.

BJ’s losses to GSP, Hughes, and Machida are worth more than Khabib’s wins against Shamhalaev, Eldarov, Akhmed, Abdulkerimov, Bayramov, Khalilov, Sandulskiy, and everyone else on his record no one’s ever heard of. Do you know why? Because quality of opponent matters just as much, if not more, than win/loss record. Losing to an all-time great, or moving from LW to HW, gets you a lot more points than beating a one-dimensional no name at your weight.

BJ takes it. We saw him against some of the best, most dominant wrestlers the sport has ever seen. On the flip side, we didn’t see Khabib against anyone with a ground game. Khabib isn’t showing BJ anything he didn’t already see with GSP, Hughes, Frankie, Sherk, Fitch, etc.

Not only that but prime WEC Aldo was a perennial pfp number one contender.

No, acting tough for signing a contract then shitting the bed against opponents you have no chance against doesn’t mean anything. Khabibs stock as 155 GOAT should rise if he quits on the stool against Usman? Or if he loses a fight to Dominick Reyes? The hell does that matter. Penn doesn’t gain stock for getting absolutely manhandled by GSP and quitting, or losing to a bigger opponent that’s just a prefabricated excuse. Props for fighting at 170 and being champ, but that doesn’t do anything for your 155 lb. resume. He defended against Diego Sanchez and KenFlo, whoopdy fucking doo. Gaethje, Poirier, RDA and McGregor would beat them worse than Khabib beat them.

Aldo also had some tough weight cuts but he never ever missed weight. Khabib missed vs Trujillo, cancelled an interim title co-main event vs Tony for “almost dying” trying to make weight, and that weigh in vs Gaethje was as shady as they come

When Bas disagrees with you racist ex Conor loving turds you know the sport has passed you by

Hello Bas’ little sister

One thread he tries to discredit Fedor with essay after essay of ignorant false ramblings and in the very next post he has a video referenced where its calling Fedor one of the GOATs LOL that is hilarious. No point in arguing with someone who contradicts themselves that much.

Bas also mentions Fedor, GSP, Sakuraba and then makes a case for Chuck Liddell!

All better choices than Aldo.

Wrong.
