or midgets.
nobody outside of the hardcore fans (anyone about to respond with insults and bs) cares about fighters under 155lbs that aren't named Conor McGregor or Ronda Rousey.

Time to put out cards filled with heavyweights again. Time to get out the wallet Dana... time to bring in the Super Heavy Weight division.
The argument used to be that there were no athletes at 265lbs plus. Well shit has changed, big time. There are big athletes everywhere now and likely a large number of these behemoths already training, dreaming of smashing skulls.
These 125, 135, and most of the 145'ers are the reason the UFC is plummeting. WEC was amazing because they made them fight in a phonebooth. The UFC cage is too big for these little guys.
They need to have a separate event for the little guys and women. Time to start up WEC again. Let Chuck Liddell run it.. he's hot for latino midgets.
BJ Penn is a featherweight.
So you're wrong.
He would move back up and not give a shit though.
Faber?
inf0 - He would move back up and not give a shit though.I remember when the UFC cut the 155 division altogether and folks said there was no interest in lightweights.
It didn't come back to the UFC until 2007, I think (maybe 2006?) so that recently folks thought 55 sucked balls.
That's nuts.
45 is really catching on. It stands to reason that the other divisions will, too, as the talent pool grows.
It's early.
Brah.
XcessiveZ - Faber?
I'll give you Faber.
Honestly I like the little guys. They fucking rocked in WEC. It hasn't translated to the big show. I suspect it is the cage size.

All of the good 145lbers could fight @ 155 no problem and have claimed they want to!
Maybe make them all fight in a phone booth?
I can't wait for BJ Penn's return, but I'm kind of bummed its against a fighter he's lost to twice.
Joeymarvelous - Maybe make them all fight in a phone booth?
I'm down with that. Smaller cage or a ring (obviously this is the best answer) is the way to go.
inf0 -Because all the good 55ers are really welterweights and all the good welterweights are 200 fucking pounds walking.Malvert the Janitor -inf0 - He would move back up and not give a shit though.I remember when the UFC cut the 155 division altogether and folks said there was no interest in lightweights.

That's not unique to one weight class.
People are coming around to these guys. I'm not saying it'll work all the way down to make straw-weights, but 145 and 135 are on pace to be just fine. 125 has a great champ but not a whole lot else at present. They could feed it with a bunch of Asian guys, though, so there's hope.
inf0 - I can't wait for BJ Penn's return, but I'm kind of bummed its against a fighter he's lost to twice.Me too. And I love you, but you're sexier in blue.
To me the argument comes down to whether people want less UFC or not. I'm a fan of great fighters, and great fights, and think this whole kill the little guy divisions is absurd, but the reality is that the UFC needs them. Even if I didn't appreciate the smaller divisions, I'd still prefer more cards with them than fewer events or more watered down heavier divisions without them.

Penn has never had a problem drawing at any weight no matter when because like Dynasty sports teams, his mix of greatness and right amount of hype was evident. There hasn't been a dynasty fighter at 155 since or ever than him and Aldo was gaining the same momentum until (unforntunately Dana is right on this one) Aldo stopped finishing guys or can't.
Look at HW right now, with the belt shuffling all over the place and Cain having fought 2 guys in 4 years HW is at it's lowest interest in half a decade. Just like parity being a mixed bag in team sports, the same thing applies to MMA. Greatness and streaks create two clear camps of love and hate who both watch for the opposite reasons based on win or lose. The lighter guys are the harder it is for them to gain the same steam greats in larger classes gain with less and there are no more guys like BJ who got a lot of notoriety from fighting all over the place weight wise in a different era.
Until someone goes on a 10-15 defense with crazy finished like Silva, 155 and under is just going to have a hard time gaining the steam they should.
Imagine Barao or Aldo were HW's, Aldo's streak would have the people watching by default and Barao's finishes and growing streak would easily have the same momentum, but each weight class you go down the harder it is and longer/flashier and close to extraordinary you have to be for extended periods of time.
It also doesn't help that Dana trivializes how hard MMA is by throwing guys under the bus for not being what he wants. He has no idea how it immediately resonantes with casuals and even hardcores who have never fought and raises expextations in parity that are often no realistic.
I think the UFC should have a UFC card dedicated to just women and lighter weights so people can just bypass them.
I buy every single Aldo fight.
He is one of the very few that are an immediate sell for me.
