Wow, that was boring. Marcello might have saved the entire set. I dont know how 2005 is gonna turn out when we get the dvd's, but how about 1 1/2 minutes standing, you get a warning at 1 minute, then 30 seconds later flip a coin and someone starts in guard....sound stupid? Probably, but this is grappling, and there was way too much standing and dancing.
How about taking points from people who pull away from a guard? Again, its grappling, if you get a chance to work from the top, why would you bail out?
Mike Van Arsdale: I hope he's improved tons since that ADCC or Randy is gonna pound him to shit. I saw no indication whatsoever that he's a dominant takedown guy. Good wrestler or not, he sucked.
I'm pretty sure that the 2005 dvd set will be a lot more exciting. I was there to see the event - Jacare, Leo, Garcia and Roger all put on an amazing show.
Wow, no offense, but that's a pretty bold statement. I loved most of the dvd. Aside from Garcia; Lister,Saulo,Jacare, and some others had great matches. Plus for me, watching Matt Lindland get armbarred twice was worth the dvd set in itself. There was some pretty bad matches on there i.e. (Kang/Reese comes to mind), but overall, I have to disagree that Garcia saved the set, however, he did contribute alot to it being as good as it is.
J Roc, I hear what you're saying, and you have a great point. But for every good 3 minute match, there was a 10 minute borefest soon to follow, and I think they couldve eliminated that with some new rules re the standing aspect. Its submission grappling, and at least half the people there seemed to not even want to grapple, they wanted to wait to score takedown points and call it a nite.
