Kauai Gi Review - lightest gi in the world?

Just read this on Jits Magazine's site - http://jitsmagazine.com/articles/entry/gi_review_kauai_ripstop_kimono

Nice review, but is there anything out there thats lighter than 2 pounds?

^^ article says it should be ibjjf legal.

Pippon CGA - ^^ article says it should be ibjjf legal.

That is the first time I've heard that. AFAIK Sole Uso is correct because of the gi top material. Did something change(rules or the gi)?

I'm not sure. But the review says that Kauai Kimonos adhere to the guidlines set out under article 8.1.1 of the rulebook.

Maybe it's their upcoming cotton ripstop gi?

Its probably toilet paper thin and will rip within 4 months Phone Post

should be ibjjf approved .... but it might not be because of politics.....

it is approved by rose's gracie us nationals

This is far from the truth.

I have one & they are very light, but they are as strong as a regular gi. The IBJJF rules don't allow ripstop gi jackets, and the Kauai uses the same material for the top as the pants, that's why it's not legal. It's not cotton like most ripstop pants, it's more like a thicker parachute material. I've trained hard in mine & had some very strong people do their worst, no issues with it staying together.

GZFS - My issue with them is/was and I didn't anticipate this, but that material feels really funky on my upper body. It stuck to me and didn't breathe that well at all. The sweat literally dripped out of the sleeves. I live in GA. It was balls hot here this summer (115) and I was hotter and more uncomfortable in this material than any other. Just my opionion, but had I seen a review like this I may not have ordered. However, I sold it to a buddy and he loves it.

True, the material does not absorb sweat at all. With a normal gi, it's soaked with sweat after class & weighs 8lbs. When I wear my Kauai, all my sweat gets soaked into my belt so that after training, I can literally wring my belt out all over the floor.

The (co) founder of this used to train with me. Bought one mainly to support him, but turned into my favorite gis.
Partly because i ride a pushy everywhere and it fits in my backpack nicely. But also feel good rolling in it.
Sucks getting collar choked in one.
Awesome to see the recognition they get. I had no idea they'd been banned. Phone Post

they feel strange and when they get wet with sweat the jacket becomes slippery. very synthetic feel to it, like a shiny nylonish material within your grip.

no wonder it would be banned from ibjjf comps
