St. Pierre will defend his title against No. 1 contender Thiago Alves at UFC 100. That fight will not be the main event, however. UFC 100 is going to deliver, it's going to be good.
Could it mean that Rampage/Machida v Evans is the main event ?
If the UFC are signing Fedor to a 1 fight deal would they really risk having him headline as big an event as UFC 100 - The exposure he would get would be incredible, if he was to beat Randy and walk away it would make the UFC look a bit foolish.
Also Fedor has (at least) 1 more fight contracted with Affliction and they are looking to host another event in June/July time.
lol @ anyone thinking Bisping/Henderson would be the main event over GSP/Alves.
1) GSP is far more popular than Bisping or Henderson
2) When have they ever had a non-title fight headline over a title fight? Even Tito/Forrest and Lesnar/Mir took a backseat to Sylvia/Arlovski and Nog/Sylvia.
Rashad's title is the only one not already announced on the line in the month or two before and after UFC 100. It's a safe bet that will be the other big fight on the card.

Personally I just don't see this happening.
I agree, it probably won't happen, but I think the UFC could risk a 1-fight contract for Fedor v. Randy now that Randy isn't champion. If Fedor wins, Dana has the excuse that Randy was old and had already been exposed by Brock, and if Randy wins, then the UFC will prove it has the best HWs in the world. In either case, the UFC will make lots of money. I am using this logic to cling to hope that Fedor will grace the octagon this year.

Agree 100% - If he is put on the card they are in a win-win situation, if they use him to headline they are taking a big risk.
I reckon the 3 main fights on the card are -
Evans v Rampage/Machida GSP v Alves Bisping v Henderson
Fedor won't fight in the UFC in 2009. He actually has 2 more fights left with Affliction. Worst case scenario, if Affliction goes bankrupt, they will have to release Fedor as a Free Agent, THEN Dana could pick him up. But that process, as we all know, can take up to a year or more. Highly unlikely Fedor at UFC 100.
GSP vs. Alves (confirmed) Bisping vs. Henderson (confirmed) "Up Dana's sleeve" = Light Heavyweight Championship Title Fight
I think chance of this happening is slim, but it is cool that they are trying.
I could see them doing a one fight deal for Fedor to face Randy, with a handshake agreement that after Fedor goes back and fulfills his Affliction contract, that he come to UFC to face whoever is champ and 2 more fights. Wishful thinking, but hey it could happen.
I believe Affliction is looking at July for Fedor v Barnett, but even still, that should be their last event.
Fedor vs Randy now is much like Chuck v Wandy was when it happened, still a huge spectacle that everyone will watch and be excited to see, but not nearly as meaningful if had happened at the right time.
I think the bottom line here is that Couture is (again) lobbying for this and ZUFFA is trying to apease him, would love to promote the fight, but signing Fedor is an uphill battle.
Diego stole my name - "He actually has 2 more fights left with Affliction"
Its a non exclusive contract. Thats why he was supposed to be fighting in Japan NYE but dropped out because of the movie he was shooting
Non-Exclusive was worked out between Affliction and DREAM. I'm sure Fedor has other obligations to take care of but the UFC is going to have a VERY tough time signing him. Not because of all these other Promotions. Dana White has had such a hard time trying to sign him over the years because of his management.

Atencio has mentioned a few times that Fedor's contract is exclusive(to Affliction) in NA.
Wait....are people really complaining about Bisping-Henderson as the THIRD fight on a card? Really? Why bitch about something like this when 96 blows and is a very easy target? I don't get it.
