Kikuya Restaurant: Fried Akule Goodness!

so teh freitas and i drove over the mountain today to install a custom heavy bag rack at kaneohe team and decided to do lunch at one of my favorite local japanese eateries, KIKUYA JAPANESE FOOD.  i love this place--one of the few locally run old grandma style tempura and japanese food places left in the islands imo. here's a shot of the door so you guys don't miss it:

when you first get in, youre greeted by decorations like my dad's mom's place used to be cluttered with--a bunch of relic japanese stuff that nobody but old japanese ladies keep around in their closets.

when you look at the adjacent wall, the specials are posted there.  first thing i look for is THE AKULE, and THERE IT WAS!

needless to say, i ordered the akule and it was the BOMB as usual! here's a couple of shots of the main course.

here's what it looked like after a few minutes. i was starving!

and YES, i realize that THE HEAD IS THE BEST PART! i saved it for last. crispy goodness. damn!

i like this place so much that i recommend that none of you go as there is always a line at lunch and dinner. they're closed on mondays.

i give this place 3.5 stripes!

PB&J Sammich

 white boy food! lol

teh freitas had the ahi katsu. i believe he said, "this fish is so soft--the way fish is supposed to be..." or something like that.

the miso soup was fine. nothing exceptional, but given the local small town ambience, it tasted great.

only thing about kikuya is, if you want ochazuke, you need to bring your own furikake.

 updated post. 3.5 stripes!

yep. the ahi katsu was an fried bit'o'heaven.

Their lunch bento is great too! But gotta get it before 2pm or your outta luck!

Damn you guys are making me crave some Akule!
