Kos: "Won't cry about it...."- Thought on UFC 95

KOS'S UFC 95 Thoughts

Feb 24, 2009

My thoughts on UFC 95. . .

First and foremost I would like to say thank you to all of my fans for their support, I really do appreciate it!

As for UFC 95. . . YES, I would have liked to see the ref let the fight go on a little bit more because we are all fighters and we fight until the end. Yes, I got hit hard, but felt as though I could have recovered if I had the chance. As for next time, my message to all the ref's would be to, please let the fight go until I'm put out to sleep. . . Just so I don't have the thought of what if, going through my mind and probably the minds of all of you, my fans.

I took this fight just as if I was fighting the number one fighter in the weight class. I felt like I did everything right in the training camp to win this fight. I was in great shape, but sometimes you still come up short in life even when I have put my whole life on hold for a chance to put everything on the line in the cage for 15 minutes. I don't think I could have done anything different in training camp to make the outcome go my way, so I guess that's life.

I don't know all of the answers to the game of MMA and I might never know all of the answers. I can tell all of you this; I have put my life on hold for 5 years to make my dream come true. The game has it's ups and downs and I have had my fair share of both. I only know to do one thing and it's what I have been doing from day one in competitions since I was a kid. . . Refocus my life and training and go back to the drawing board and train for my next fight. I have 13 weeks of training camp for my next fight May 23rd at UFC 98 in Las Vegas.

I could be like a lot of other people and cry about it for weeks and months and make a big deal about it, but it's now when the true character and discipline of a person is tested.

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."- Martin Luther King Jr.

This is a time of challenge and controversy for me but it is my passion and I'm going to get up and do what I do best and that is go back to the gym and train to become the best. I will not make excuses for losing a fight, but yes I may get mad and yell a bit, but at the end of the day there is only one person that can control this and that's me. So maybe someday we can do a rematch, it would make for a good fight.

The training for my fight on May 23rd at UFC 98 starts Monday, March 2nd at 11:30am. Keep checking back for my video blog on my training camp. . . Road to 98!

Thank You

Kos

P.S I don't care who I fight at UFC 98, I hope it's someone super tough and someone that is ranker in the top of the weight class. . . if anyone wants to step up, I will be ready to go!

I think last week called a few times now

cool quote

He pretty much hit the nail on the head. He was winning the bout until he got caught. It's easy to say "he should've shot in!" but he could've run into a knee and gotten KO'd the same way. Ditto for shooting into a submission. I don't think training differently would've changed the outcome. It was an intentional strike, but flukish. Reminds me a lot of Schembri/Sakuraba. Sometimes shit just happens and Josh seems to have realized that.

Figured we should write one to them too since they're... uhhh.. ya know... Officially investigating to decide whether or not GSP intentionally cheated

Dude likes to fight. Mix in some damn wrasslin next time though

There's nothing flukish about throwing an upper-cut when your opponent jumps in with the same 2 punch combo that he has thrown since TUF 1.

I saw nothing in that fight that leads me to believe that Kos would win a rematch. Kos couldn't hurt Paulo and Paulo KOd him.

lol@Spider, I was thinking the same thing but actually I am a fan of Kos...shows up to fight in shape and does not make excuses.

I am absolutely a KOS fan now. I wasn't before. I thought he had a bad attitude.

Other fighters could learn from his example. I hope he never gets cut from the UFC.

If Kos would use his wrestling more it wouldn open up more oppurtunity's for his strikes. he has become a wrestler who thinks he's a striker instead of being a wrestler who can strike.

Well, let's see. He could "not jump in with the same two punch combo he's thrown since 2001". Or he could take Paulo down at will and maul him like he did Lytle.

keep your head up Kos you'll be back stronger than ever

Oh, so we should just assume that Thiago, who's primary strength is BJJ, either couldn't stuff Kos' takedowns or couldn't submit him off his back.

Remember, Kos only trains submission defense and wrestling 15% of the time so who's to say he's still that good at either.

Koscheck has become one of my favorite fighters. While he wasn't always exciting, he's had a great attitude from the beginning.
