After watching The Human Weapon's Krav Maga episode, I decide to see if any Krav Maga classes were offered in the area that I could checkout to see it in person. I found 2 that are relatively close to my house, but they seem to be different.
The first one is called Krav Maga which is listed on www.kravmaga.com as being a legit place to learn Krav Maga.
The second one is called Commando Krav Maga and is not listed on the Krav Maga site as being legit.
Are these two systems similar or is the Commando one a fraud? They both offer DVD sets of their systems, but the price of CKM is drastically more.
Anybody know anything about the differences between theset two systems (if there are any)?
I would assume that the one that is not listed as a legit place to learn is fake.
but another great way to find out is to actually drive your car over and watch it yourself. compare the 2. Talk to the instructor, see what the students are like.
One of the teachers Bill and Jason went to see was wearing a Commando Krav Maga shirt, and it's listed on wikipedia as an official branch of Krav Maga.
Check out the class.. One might be more like "Cardio Krav Maga" and the other might have a lot of sparring...
Is KV really a good self defense system for the average joe?
I hear, ad nauseum, the KV and other reality based self defense proponents brush off MMA and BJJ because it's not training for the "street" like the "street" is some sort of magical place where the laws of physics don't apply.
But KV was developed for military use. In the military situations you have battle field environments, special weapons, special tactics, heightened awareness of adversaries, and all the thing that go along with military encounters. Since KV wasn't developed for the "street" how can they make the claim that it's effective on the "street". Not only wasn't it developed for the "street", the training doesn't take place on the "street". It takes typically place in a nice comfy gym.
So here's my statement:
Krav Maga may be effective on the battlefield where there are different conditions than on the "street", but that's because it was designed for the battle field. It wasn't developed for the "street" so it can't really be that effective on the "street".
i thought moni aizik did the commando. if so, i'd go with him, although i disagree with some of his weapon defenses posted in blackbelt. he did train carlos newton, and a few judoka who did well in competitions.
Corey Molinelli has many years of Martial Arts training, including a second degree black belt in Kempo, and Ninjitsu. He served in the US Army as an explosives specialist. Then joined the Fire service where he commanded or supervised special operations teams for over 12 years. He is a consultant and trainer for the Dept. of Homeland Security as well as many other organizations dedicated to the safety of our nation. Corey is a Level 2 CKM instructor.
or you can do cardio kickboxing to stay in shape and get yourself a liscence to carry. Get one of those smith and wesson .500 magnums. Nothing says fuck off like one of those pointed at your face.
