does anyone in competition use this stuff?for that matter what the hell is it?i have a new student who swears by it. however,HE CANT FIGHT HIS WAY THROUGH WET TOILET PAPER! so, do debunk his stuff, support it, or agree w/ it.
Krav Maga is far too lethal to be used in MMA. Same reason why palm heels to the nose (which drive bone fragments into the brain), "X" blocks (too effective) and the dim mak have been outlawed as well.
so does that mean its good but he just sucks?he did it for 2.5 years.figured hed learn something.
krav maga is great for fat old ladies, but terrible for mma

"krav maga is great for fat old ladies, but terrible for mma"
It's actually really good for mma. Few people actually use it in mma though. Liddell likes to incorporate some eye gouging, oops I mean pawing, to prevent clinches and takedowns. Fishhooking, eye gouging, oil checking, biting are all effective ways to pass guard, fight in the clinch, sweep, etc. Most of Krav Maga's techniques are illegal in mma hence why no one bothers to incorporate them.
Now if used in a street fight it could be effective though I consider it cheap. From the style match-ups/fights(akin to the old UFC days) I've witnessed, Krav Maga seems to be a primarily counterstriking. They prefer close range attacks that involve eye gouging, biting, scrathing, tearing, fish hooking, small joint manipulation and other bitch fighting techniques. They mainly rely on close distance fighting so you can pick them apart by keeping your distance and throwing leg kicks.
ttt for more info, anyone have any experiences with krav maga
so its pulling hair, scratching face, poking eyes, and biting? doesnt sound like much. it sounds like total bitch fighting. so if a krav maga'er fought a skilled fighter he would get smoked?( in street or cage)Frederick, in what ways did it improve your stand up? is it based heavily on stand up?sparring? is there no respect towards mat work? for that matter i checked a TMA search engine and found no matches. dont know why im so worked up over this crap. just some of the shit this guy says just pisses me off. the first nite i met him i had to put him to sleep cuz he bit the top of my thigh when i put on a very soft yet secure triangle on him.
I don't think they spar against resisting opponents in their stand up, but I'm not 100% sure.
Krav Maga is widely considered to be one of the top hand-to-hand combat disciplines ever devised. It was developed by the Israeli military a few decades ago for use by air marshals, Special Forces, Mossad, etc. in situations where weapons aren't an option (you can't very well shoot a suicide bomber/hijacker with C4 strapped to his titties in mid-flight on a 747 over Tel Aviv)
There is only one objective in Krav Maga: to kill or incapacitate your opponent. Instantly.
Those guys are bad-ass motherfuckers.
Shalom!
The examples I have seen are garbage. Bu I a sure there is some usefull stuff in there for cerain situations, depending on who is teaching it. There is some decent gun and knife retention, but that is last resort stuff that may be useful as a supplement to law enforcement officers.
I am sure it depends on who you train with, but from what I have seen it doesn't teach one how to fight effectively. Much of it looks like an aggressive form of stand-up Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, lots of standing locks, eye gouges, etc.
Two high level Krav maga instructors guys came to my academy and easily got dumped on their asses when they wanted to try doing some stand up.
People often think that "lethal" military hand-to-hand martial arts are supposed to be more effective or deadlier than "sporting" martial arts, but the opposite is quite true. Training against fully resisting opponents is quite essential if one wants their style to be effectice. A great quote is "If your style is too deadly to be practiced live, it is useless."
Most units in modern armies have almost NO USE for hand-to-hand combat. They should probably spend more time on shooting and battlefield tactics. Much of the "lethal" modern combatives are practiced against willing opponents in a non free-flow environment. They are there simply to teach the soldier something about self defense and to give him a fighting, "never give up" mentality.
However, I think that combative sports can accomplish the same aggressive mentaility in a better way, that's why I think it is great that the army is using BJJ for his ppurpose. I still think they don't need any hand-to-hand, though.
Perhaps some soldiers on here would disagree with me. If so, I would respectfully like to hear what they have to say on the matter.
"Krav Maga is far too lethal to be used in MMA."
Im pretty sure that the following techs would get you DQ in any MMA event:

Bottom line is that MMA style fighting is just a little piece of Krav Maga. Of course they wont be as good as a fulltime MMAer at it. But theres a lot of other situations where their training will be better...
"I don't think they spar against resisting opponents in their stand up, but I'm not 100% sure. "
This looks like sparring to me:

Krav guys in MMA?
The roots of Krav Maga can be traced back to the birth of Israel in 1948, when Imi Lichtenfeld began teaching hand-to-hand fighting to the newly created Israeli Defense Forces.
Late in 1973, The Israeli Army began re-assigning soldiers whose units were decimated during the recent Yom Kippur War. One officer, Major Moni Aizik, was appointed to update Krav Maga. Moni was one of only six survivors (out of 64 men) when his commando unit was attacked by a thousand Syrian troops. Because of his extensive experience in combat and as an expertise in Jujitsu and Judo (he was Israeli champ), the Israeli army assigned Moni the task of revamping Krav Maga. Moni teamed up with Imi Lichtenfeld, who came out of retirement to add his contributions, and over the course of the next year they developed the next generation of Krav Maga.
In 1985, Moni handed his school over to his top students and immigrated to Canada to start spreading Combat Survival internationally. In 1986 he opened a school in Toronto called the Samurai Club. This club was wholly responsible for pioneering the popularity of Jujitsu, no-holds-bared fighting and reality-based-training in Canada. Moni's students dominated the competition, his stable of fighters included UFC champ, Carlos Newton, Japan Shooto champ, Joel Gerson, and Jujitsu champs Mark Bocek and Omar Salvosa. Unbeknownst to most people, the root discipline that provided the foundation for all these champions was Moni's Combat Survival system.
There's lots more. I reccomend you read the article. Not all krav is the same...
But, the lineage goes:
Imi -> Moni -> Newton
Happy now?
No, I don't do Krav.
Krav Maga is more of a training method than a style as their moves come from various MA's, it seems. It also appears that when these "traning methodologies" spar, they do it in a sportive sense (ie. they kickbox, box, or MMA spar). When I was taking JKD we sparred, we boxed or kickboxed, and we grappled. That was the "live training". When we practiced the "deadly" strikes and eye gouges it was in the form of drills or scenario-based training.
My training is not being questioned here.
I am simply presenting the undeniable fact that Krav Maga has produced some success in mma.
I just believe in credit where it's due, even if it's not credit due to me.
I remember when grappling staretd to get big in Ontario, and there is no doubt Moni's school was a major force, ifnot a driving force. He even got Rickson to come up and do a seminar, followed by a grappling tournament with Rumina Sato as a competitior. This would be the mid to late 90's.
No, Moni probably has no truck with the California bunch who teach j-lo.
Jellyman is on the money with his response, from someone who teaches and trains Krav,MMA,and BJJ.It all depends on the teacher and what real world experience they have. Some r the real deal others are?
So is the concept of Krav Maga much like JKD?
