Agreed. Welterweight has an active champion. No need for an interim title. Just let them fight it out to see who gets the next shot.

The only good arguments ive heard about interim belts are:
1- the ufc cant say you're the next in line for a title fight and then hustle you out of it
2- the fighters get paid more when there is a belt on the line
