Interesting true crime story. Surprised it hasn’t been optioned by a studio for a feature film. Guy Ritchie could direct.
At one point Darren Aronovsky(?) was looking to do a film about it. Murray was appealing his sentence so it got delayed. Then nothing since.
They tried to do a film about it in 2008 , but it fizzled out
It seems a no brainer to do a movie about it.
Time for me to watch episode 3
I enjoyed this Documentary, and learned some new minor details about Lee, and the heist.
The recorded phone calls were obviously and understandably staged though.
Also enjoyed seeing Anderson’s perspective of his matchup with Lee.
Just finished the last episode. A lot of this was new information to me since I didn’t follow it very closely at the time the case was going on. I had no idea just how much money Murray was making through drugs and other gang-related activities prior to the bank heist. Even though they painted the road rage incident as being the thing that destroyed his dream of fighting abroad, he would have been caught sooner than later for all the other shit he had going on
Damn this documentary is really in depth.
I tried to share it with a relative that isn’t into MMA but loves true crime, they couldn’t get into it. Now I see why… I just finished episode 2. It’s really drawn out. I’m thinking what the hell else is there to talk about for 2 more hours? But it’s good. It just seems like they made this HIGH END production for the DIEHARD fans. So much more MMA talk than I expected! Amazing for us, but I don’t see many casuals viewers watching this episode 1 to 4
Agree completely. I’ve found watching this to be a really nice trip down memory lane. brought back memories of the old days, UFC 38, how small the UK mma community was back then (wish i could access SFUK and see some of the old threads from back then). Whatever the opinion of Lee, he really had star potential written all over him and may have become the first UK UFC champion if things had gone another way. I always felt with him that being who he was, was a double edged sword, similar to Jon Jones. What makes them great leads them to risking everything and causing their own downfall. We all know Jones has come so close multiple times to ruining his own career and risked jail at the same time. I wouldn’t be surprised when Lee does eventually get out there if is a hollywood film about his life. He will always be a colourful story in the rich tapestry that is the history of the early days of MMA.
Agree. I love the insight on the MMA stories from Anderson Silva, Pat Miletich, Cage Rage promoter, etc. Good comparison to Jones too. When he was telling that story about the road rage , that’s something right out of Jones book.
What I remember from that time was a sometimes amusing troll named Skelboy. Murray himself posted a few times also. insert namedrop Riggs and Murray seemed to be on a collision course, so we’d come on here and stir the pot a bit and get some good chuckles going back and forth with the troll.
