Fighters get automatic title shots often when they move DOWN. I can't think of any except BJ who got them when they moved up. And BJ obviously shouldn't have. But at least he was an active fighter.

He left with a belt, and is MMA royalty. Like you said, there has been other fighters in the past who have gotten instant title shots when they moved up. So it's not unheard of. At least GSP deserves it more than BJ, Chael, or Conor did.
