I've re watched the fight a couple of times. Did he really drop mir from the strike or was it a combo of him having a kick up in the air when lesnar hit him and losing his balance?

Right now I think there's no question that Monson wins. Lesnar looked good for a rookie, but Monson's a lot slicker than Mir is. Mir's better at quick submissions, but Monson wouldn't stay down like Mir - he'd do his signature roll-out when Lesnar started striking. A lot of the damage Lesnar did was because Mir doesn't defend - he looks for holds.
Give Lesnar another year or two and things might be different, but right now Monson submits him in round 1.
Monson is a better/stronger version of Mir. Worse possible matchup for Brock at this stage.
