Lets Keep it real about flyweight div.

Nothing but love for the 125 division. If DJ wasn’t the champ, that division would be super competitive and a lot more interesting. DJ is just head and shoulders above everyone else.

Yeah on second thought nvm fuck this division

I have no interest in watching a 125 bout. I can't explain why, either.

125 would have been fine if dj wasn’t a human cartoon.

The biggest drawn in MMA is the 155lbs and 145lbs champ…

But go on.

I don’t mind the size, my issue is that it’s so one sided. I feel like MM needs to fight these guys in a gauntlet and have a time limit to win, or he gets put in a hole and must put the lotion on the skin.

I like watching the little guys. They are fast, go hard, and have cardio for days.

They could take a page from midget wrestling though and give them little costumes and names like The Angry Dwarf, and Little Pisser. That would draw more fans.

Names like "The Mighty Mouse"?

I like 125, I’m just not a very big fan of the champion.

Where we hate the most technical divisions

and shamelessly root for roiding scum.

125 isnt my favorite division or anything but its no weaker than half the other divisions. LHW and HW are terrible as well. Theres been like ONE new exciting contender each in those divisions in the last few years (Vulcan and Francis).

Better close them down as well. So in conclusion, lets get rid of LHW, HW, WBW, FLW, and WFW since there is SHIT going on in those divisions.

Flyweight is by far the weakest. The women’s divisions don’t count.

Your HW/LHW argument is invalid.

It doesn’t matter if a 5’6, 130 lb guy is the most skilled football player ever, he won’t be able to compete in the NFL.

Exactly. The little guys are technical and all that but no matter how skilful, they are only the biggest of the small fish in a tiny pond.

HW is the open water full of sharks who can eat you in a heartbeat, swim or drown.

The best HW/LHW can fuck up virtually every other fighter on the roster in an Openweight fight. That’s why they are interesting and make the big bucks. Weight classes exist for a reason. HW is populated by the apex predators and 125 is the furthest division away from that.

Sage Northcock - Only in MMA do the fans have an obsession with size (and buff guys).

If boxing fans were the same both Floyd and Manny never would have been stars as both started their careers under 130 lbs (105 for Manny).

You MMA dorks are REALLY gay for big buff guys, as evidenced by the unnerving obsession with roiders (Lensar, Romero, Vitor, etc).

Or there is a connection with the guys you mentioned cause they’re all strong and fun to watch. Nobody gives a shit about gleison and he’s buff as hell.

Just a different crowd in mma. Who cares. Guys that care or make it a competition are weirdos.

Interesting point though. It's fun to think about why it's so much different in mma regarding size preference. I can watch small boxers or kickboxers definitely (I prefer heavyweight but it doesn't matter. In mma though I just always wish it could be LW and up in the UFC.

The general casual fan does not want to see small guys fight. Irrespective of their skill level. Isnt it that easy?

You are correct that casual doesn't enjoy little man fights.

FrontBroRian - Funny how the consensus is that it's OK to not like the 125 division, but if anyone says they don't like WMMA have the UG has an aneurysm.
I think that the main difference is that those are the best women in the world at their sport. The 125 weight class is just the best little guy. Which means he's probably getting bested by almost everyone else in weight classes above him. That's why the heavyweight champion of the world has always been considered the baddest man on the planet

125 is just too small of a weight for me to care about. Maybe if there was more parody in the division my opinion would change. I love the 135,145,and 155 divisions. Tons of great fights.

Agreed. Id love to see some more parody as well as some satire in the division.

I sincerely hope you meant parity. lol

I don’t think anyone really believes that he wouldn’t be top 3 at 135 (and possibly champ) and top 10 at 145. Whether people like him or not, he’s talented as fuck. No way “almost everyone else in weight classes above him” is handling him.

And his skill level vs the “best women in the world” in galaxies apart.

Yeah because everyone s favourite boxer is the minimum weight champion

Unfortunately for "mighty Johnson" he's in a division full of fighters the casual fan don't know. If he was avenging his losses Pickett, Cruz and taking superfights and winning no one would give a fuck about his size. He would be a superstar.

I agree with you there he’s definitely better than all the women and he’s an extremely technically sound fighter. But the average Joe Schmo who is 200 plus pounds feels ( wether wrong or right) they would throw him through a window. And the reality is some could.

So let him prove it! I don’t think he’d be top 3 at 135. I think he’d get manhandled by Cody, TJ, Cruz, Barao and probably more.

He doesn’t win because he’s the best. He wins because he’s in a division that most adult males couldn’t get into even if they chopped off an arm.

Why is he not going up to smash TJ at 135? The proof is in doing it.
