Let's say Nick never pursued, outcome?

Let's say Nick never took the risk of pursuing constantly, how would've the fight looked/been scored?

Seems most of the "damage" Nick took was due to him walking Carlos down consistently. Phone Post

You would have seen condit still keeping distance while throwing flashy stuff that mostly hits air. Phone Post

Probably would have looked like condit fighting Starnes Phone Post

Carlos, at times, pushed Nick back during the later rounds and caused damage.

Carlos wouldve kept circling & running no matter what. He had his mind made up to be a hit & run artist.

That fight already was the standup version of lay n pray. If Nick didnt move I dont know what it would have been, but it would have sucked even more...if thats possible.

That is a completely moot point. One of the reasons Diaz walks guys down is to close range so he can swarm them with punches. What did you expect Condit to do in the most important fight of his life? Oblige him? Give him the fight he wants at the range he wants? Condit especially didn't want Diaz close because he is more adept at kicking than Diaz is and didn't want to lose his effective range.

He did what any professional trained fighter should do - back off and wait for the opportunities to arise. It's also what all Diaz's other opponents (at least those in recent years) have tried to do, it's just that Condit was able to do it. He backed off when he needed to, punched when he could, kicked effectively when he had range and spun off the fence to stop himself getting blended.

If people criticise Condit then you simply can't understand the sport. The fight was never boring at all. There was significant techniques, strategies and ebbs-and-flows throughout. Condit was launching explosive knees, elbows, punches and kicks throughout - he just wasnt as effective as he could have been because of the ability Diaz has.

I am a huge fan of both guys and I really wanted Diaz to win (simply because I have been watching him for longer), but he simply didnt have an answer to Condit. Condit fought brilliantly and deserves the intermin strap, the unification bout and the purse that goes along with it. And even if Condit had been fighting negatively (which he wasn't at all), then I think he should be given a pass on doing that in his most important fight after finishing 26 of his previous 27 wins inside the distance.

Carlos would have simply stood on the outside and picked him apart with kicks. Moving forward is what saved Nick from Carlos not being able to set his feet and kick as much

As in kept in the distance Condit was trying to keep established? Phone Post

Gokudamus stole my name - Carlos would have simply stood on the outside and picked him apart with kicks. Moving forward is what saved Nick from Carlos not being able to set his feet and kick as much

Precisely. Diaz was walking him down so he didn't have to deal with Condit's shins.

Walking forward simply isn't enough. Otherwise Leben would have beaten Bisping 30-27 on all 3 scorecards.
