Liddell on Jones: I have the right to my opinion

Liddell on Jones: I have the right to my opinion

Early last week EA Sports set up a full sized Octagon in New York's Times Square and flew some of the biggest names in MMA there, to debut the new flagship combat sports title

Some members of the UG wondered if things were tense between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell, as the pair bickered publicly in April.

Prior to the UFC 172 main event between Jon Jones and challenger Glover Teixeira, Liddell said repeatedly that Teixeira would win it, and more.

"I think I would have been a horrible matchup for him," added Liddell. "I would have walked through his punches and he wouldn't have caught me with anything... I would have found a way to hit him, and I hit too hard."

Liddell's friend and former trainer John Hackleman is the long-time trainer of Glover Teixeira.

The day after the fight, which Teixeira lost, Jones took to Instagram, and rubbed it in.

Talking all that trash before the fight.. you mad bro?

However, in an interview with FOX Sports, Liddell said he is not in fact mad, bro.

"It's nothing personal," said Liddell. "That's my opinion, that's his opinion. Opinions don't change. I'm not going to change my opinion, but it doesn't have to be personal. I don't get personal with guys."

"Guys get mad at me. It's nothing personal. I like you, you're a nice person. It doesn't mean if I say you have a weak punch, I don't like you as a person."

"It's just my opinion,. If you don't like it, I don't care. Actually, I've put my time in. I deserve an opinion. I've got the right to my opinion."

Liddell's kids however have not forgotten, and won't be playing the EA Sports UFC game as Jones.

"With me and Jon going back and forth, I don't think they'll play as Jon," said Liddell. "My family, they take it more personal than I do."

"opinions don't change."

Wise words from Master Chuck.

Liddell that was an opinion but an opinion that will get you smashed if you pull a Gracie and comeback after your prime. Jones would annihilate you. Phone Post 3.0

nice answer

Ya, cept he's too smart to come back. What's he got to gain from it? Money? Got plenty... Notoriety? I think not, he's still one of the most recognizable fighters in history. Phone Post 3.0

what's the point of all this anyway?

Liddell is now an executive or something, the guy hasn't turned the page yet it seems.

LOL @ "UFC Executive" Liddell. He's just getting a paycheck for life for being Dana and Lorenzo's bro.

If he were any sort of real executive, he would have worked to promote his organization's dominant champion in the lead up to UFC 172 instead of talking about how he would have KO'd him in his glory days and openly backing his training partner.

Even the people who despise Jones have to admit that on the scale of "professionalism" as an employer, Zuffa is a farce.

Chuck Liddell was able to walk through punches at one point in his career.. that point is far gone.

boneskodaiceman - Look. Chuck couldn't beat Rampage at the height of his career, how the hell does he think he could beat Jones?

Yeah but to be fair, Chuck was easily walking through those punches too until he got bored with the fight altogether and took a nap

Chuck needs to let it go. Phone Post 3.0

Nothing personal? Liddell was anything but nothing personal with Tito. And Jones would give Liddell a worst beating of his life even if "The Iceman" had fought him in his prime.

Respect Chuck for what he has done for the sport, but he's being delusional if he thinks he's a bad match up for Jones.

:) I won't argue against any of that!

Chuck would get fucked Phone Post 3.0

Prime Chuck, would have indeed made short work of Jones imo.

EvilMaster - Prime Chuck, would have indeed made short work of Jones imo.
Short work for. Your spell check is failing again.

Silly how do you not change your opinion when it was wrong? Glover will win! (JAN wins) "my opinion won't change"... ehhh Phone Post 3.0

was chucks prime when he beat randy twice?

legend, but...

he was tko'd by randy once as well

And these are The Days of Our MMA Lives....

Prime Chuck couldn't walk through Randy Couture' s punches and failed miserably at defending the integration of striking and takedowns at UFC 43. And that was when Randy was how old already? Jesus, Jones would've caved his face in.
