Lion Fight Promotions, the top Muay Thai organization in the United States, holds its first event of the year Saturday in "The Fight Capital" of Las Vegas, Nevada.
It will be a bittersweet evening, as Lion Fight 61 is the final Lion Fight event to be held at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The Hard Rock is re-branding as a Virgin hotel property.
Many boxing and kickboxing events have been held at the Joint-a cozy venue and great place to watch a fight. Some top stars in kickboxing have fought for Lion Fight at the Joint, including Simon Marcus and Joe Schilling.
Saturday’s Lion Fight 61 fight card will be broadcast nationally in the U.S. on the CBS Sports Network.
The broadcast begins at 9 pm PST (Midnight on the East Coast), and four bouts are scheduled, including an anticipated showdown for the Lion Fight Cruiserweight World Title.
Reigning champion Chip Moraza-Pollard risks his crown against Finland’s Daniel Forsberg. Forsberg represents the TMT (Turku Muay Thai) Gym in Finland and is an experienced Thai-rules competitor. He also holds the KOK World Middleweight Title in kickboxing.
Southern California veteran Josh “El Gato” Aragon meets Damian Segovia, winner of the “Road to Lion Fight” four-man tournament.
A female title bout is also featured with Magalie Alvarez taking on Regan Gowing.
