Lyoto VS Mayweather... in MMA striking. who wins?

"Freddy Roach coached Arlovski to get KOed within seconds by Brett Rogers."

Did it look like Arlovski was doing what Roach taught him? Does Roach teach hands down, backing straight up, chin in the air?

Yes there are big differences between boxing and mma, but the extreme rationalizing of the shitty standup we see most of the time in MMA is silly. The fact is that good fundamental boxing technique would almost always be more effective than what we currently see. Andrei following good boxing = making Fedor look inept (throwing knee = KTFO). Crocop following good boxing =
KTFO of Coleman, wobbling Fedor and driving him back (throwing a kick = taken down, beginning of the end). Anderson's boxing-style head movement and footwork + straight punches = making everyone look like fools. Randy's basic boxing got him the win against Chuck the first time, and certainly helped against Sylvia. BJ with head movement and jabs = beating guys up. Frank Edgar + basic boxing footwork and hands = tooling Sherk, beating Tyson, etc.

Of course  the guy with the more classic boxing style might sometimes get KTFO by a wild haymaker; doesn't mean the haymaker is the higher percentage approach. And the common argument that "it looks shitty because they have to defend the takedown" isn't very valid either, because boxing style footwork and angles and distance control (via the jab) all are excellent ways to keep the wrestler from setting up for a takedown in the first place (Edgar did exactly this against Sherk).

whenever someone wins. their boxing is good.
whenever they lose. not enough boxing.

got ya.

Yes, because Freddie taught him how to do something completely stupid and not stick to the game plan which was working....

Brett Rogers KOed Arlovski with his hands within seconds. Seconds.

MMA has much smaller gloves. the defense is completely different.

I'm thinking of a different fight. Can't remember which one though...AA got KOd because he did something dumb...

Anyway, you act as if Freddie Roach coaches a guy that said guy should win and if not, it's Freddie's fault. That is retarded. It has to do with the persons skill not Freddie's abilities as a coach, which speak of themselves.

Id say it is freddies fault..he trained with roach in that fight and none of it helped. It just goes to show you can train just train boxing and think you can win. Had Arlovski trained elswhere, I'm sure they wouldve taught him to take down rogers and submit his ass.

So MMA > boxing in every argument. MMA standup is not boxing and people have to realize that.Boxers wont do half their shit in MMA.

Haha, so it's Freddie's fault and not AA's skills? I see how that works. You don't think that's an easy ass excuse and a perfect way to try and take a bs shot at boxing?

I'm not saying that boxing IN MMA is better than MMA. Read the thread title. It's about "MMA Striking"...which Floyd would wreck almost everyone in.

gotcha.

no, because most MMA'er boxing sucks. Period. Look at the hands of a boxer and compare it...not even close. BTW, that doesn't mean that I think that a boxer would own in MMA following MMA rules...

MMA Boxing is different from Boxing anyway

Big gloves make it easier to block punches and harder to land them. Not to mention boxers get away with ducking and weaving punches in angles that would get you kneed in the face....

There are many more examples like this... If PBF Went to MMA he would have to change alot of his habits in his boxing to fit MMA, and that would take some time. Not to mention learning Wrestling, GNP, BJJ, Kick boxing, Clinch...

Boxing is an easier sport as it doesn't have as much depth, and it's been around and highly competitive for a long time reaching it's potential alot more than MMA has which is still under going changes and evolution.

An MMA Fighter wont be able to compare hands to someone who ONLY trains hands constantly in a simpler, more perfected sport...
