Will check this later. Dean was awesome. Was at the Metamoris where he lost to Barnett
Rich Chou dropping next week
A legend of “my generation”, this guy really was the boogeyman. Snapping ankles instead of passing guard!!! Who did that, back then? Nobody as well as him, hence the reputation. Very glad I never got a call to fight him, back then… I would’ve taken it, young and always up for a challenge… But probably wouldn’t have been a smart “career” move.
Gets knocked out of the ADCC tournament in 2003
Erik Paulson claims that he saw an aura around him and offered Dean his spot in the absolute
Dean wins it, including beating the heavyweight tournament winner along the way
The guy is a legend
It couldn’t have gone any worse than some of the other fights we’ve seen.
Happy to see you here.
Glad to be here.
Not sure I get the context on the “couldn’t have gone any worse”… First reaction is defensive, like dude – thanks - my other fights sucked that bad?
But in any case, just saying glad I didn’t go out to California to fight some other tough dude. And end up crawling back to Illinois with a broken leg. Back when ya take any fight offered…
No. It didn’t have anything to do with your other fights.
Think of something like the Sage Northcutt fight where he had to take years off while the doctors rebuilt his face or the one dude in Bellator that had a somewhat similar injury from Michael Page. That’s what I meant. You may not have won a bout with Dean Lister but you probably wouldn’t have ended up with life altering injuries as a result either.
Good podcast, learned a lot
Dean Lister is a bad mofo
Enjoyed the Brian Ebersole podcast also
I know Dean said he wasn’t in touch with Mirko much anymore but maybe you could get a number or contact and try and get at Mr. CroCop…he is on my dream list for a LOP history podcast and his English is strong enough as we all know…Somebody has to know Mirko enough to get his attention so we can hear his legendary stories
He is an absolute Pioneer, stud grappler. I was lucky enough to do a seminar of his.
