Conor's got good hands for MMA: a sport where most fighters learn how to box by hitting pads held by thier BJJ teacher. Of course Conor looks good against these kinds of guys.
Paulie Malignaggi is a whole different animal. Paulie grew up on the mean streets of Bensonhurst Brooklyn and Palermo Sicily. Paulie clowned world class talent like Zab Judah, Adrien Broner, and Juan Diaz.
Conor beat a guy whose boxing coach is a pizza man.
In the country of the blind, Conor's the world's tallest midget. Putting the cal on Paulie for a boxing match is suicide. He make Conor miss until he gassed so hard he fell out.
Conor is delusional. He wouldn't lay a glove on Paulie. A retired boxer turned Beverly Hills boxercise instructor made Conor look like a happy jackass in light sparring.
Paulie would crash Conor's stock like the Great Depression
Paulie was very underrated. His fashion and style didn't match his toughness. Paulie was taught and fought like an old school guy. His mind for boxing is incredible. He knows the little moves, tricks, looks and angles the were developed by the old school guys. Paulie was not as successful as a guy like Bernard Hopkins, but his knowledge and vision is equal to that of Bernard's. He would completely shut Conor down, and nullylify any attack Conor was attempting. Vastly different levels of skill.
You guys think Conor could fight in a way where he loses but doesn't get embarrassed? The cost would be a ridiculously boring fight, but you get paid regardless..
Paulie is very skilled, but he's got one of the lowest finish ratio of all welterweight champions in history. He hits like a 90lb female. Conor hits like a 200lb man.
Yeah, Paulie would outbox him and decision him. But Conor has the power to put anyone's lights out at welterweight in boxing. He could theoretically catch him.
You are out of your mind if you think Paulie Malinaggi beats Conor in boxing. Malinaggi has pillowfists, is slower, less athletic, just all around a lesser fighter. Overrated boxer.
CHiLLEN - Did you see what Conor did to Alvarez???
Alvarez trains boxing with a guy who runs a pizzeria.
Paulie is a former world champion who has been in the ring with world class boxers.
Conor would look as slow as a man moving in quicksand in comparison to Paulie. Paulie would make Conor quit out of sheer frustration. Conor has it in him. He didn't want to be KO'd by Nate so he initiated the takedown and fast tapped. He also fast tapped to Duffy.
Malignaggi would die before he would quit. Cotto and Hatton were killing him to death and he kept on coming. Buddy McGirt had to save Paulie from himself.
Paulie is miles ahead in terms of talent and heart.
JOB - Paulie is very skilled, but he's got one of the lowest finish ratio of all welterweight champions in history. He hits like a 90lb female. Conor hits like a 200lb man.
Yeah, Paulie would outbox him and decision him. But Conor has the power to put anyone's lights out at welterweight in boxing. He could theoretically catch him.
Paulie's hands have been ruined since he was a teenager. His knuckles are basically dust at this point. He's all skill, no power. You'd be shocked at how small he is compared to some of the guys he fought.
Conor has outrageous power and great-for-MMA striking. If he would have stuck with boxing, I have no doubts that we would know his name.
He has fantastic timing, great reflexes, and a killer instinct. Those are almost unteachable qualities in a fighter. I do think he'd be too slow of hand and foot for Welterweight, and he'd be 3 inches shorter than the average top 50 WW boxer. The advantages he exploits in MMA wouldn't be there for him in boxing.
Paulie's a really nice guy, and he's very honest about his own abilities and place in the sport. He's not a what-could-have-been type who wonders what life would be like if he had his skillset and one punch KO power. He's so completely honest about the fight game, and his place in it, it's refreshing.
He's very aware of how talented Conor is, and is a fan of the fighter and the show.
Imagine the epic trashtalk between the two leading up to a fight in MSG?
The crowd would be great: 20,000 Guidos and Irishmen all looking for a place to get a drink and hit on women after the fight.
