i agree. i would be interested to see how he adapts. Not even talking about take downs. What about kicks and knees?

Damn!

Well unless he signs with somebody that can put him against top talent (which he obviously is in boxing) in his weight division in MMA, I'm sure he can be carefully enough handled to do pretty well.

How do people think Mayweather, possibly the best boxer int he world, would do against Kid Yamamoto, Urijah Faber, or any of the top 135-155ers in Japan or in the WEC or UFC?

That said, it would be very exciting should he compete in MMA no matter what. And a big deal.

how do you think he would do in mma. Obvisouly his boxing is good and he can adjust his style of striking to mma, but what bout the other aspects?

standing up he would eat Kid Yamamoto alive..

"standing up he would eat Kid Yamamoto alive.."

Standing up 70% of his defense is to turn away from his opponent and bend a bit at the waist. In MMA that would get him punched in the kidneys, get his legs kicked to shit, or just get him plumbed and kneed.

i was thinking the same thing about his defense, but a good wrestler does not have to shoot far away nor should you ever shoot from a far distance. A good wrestler can also get in under over and work the upper body take downs. Also, i think the leg kicks would affect him drastically

Yeah, I wouldn't take it for granted that Mayweather's MMA striking would be better than most even with his undeniable boxing skills. Sam Sheridan wrote an excellent article on striking for InsideFighting. I'll go look for it and link to it for people's consideration

ttt for the article about striking

Here we go:

“The Shovel and the Epee”: Striking in Boxing and MMA - 4/10/2007

"There is more to the debate, however—MMA striking is fundamentally different than boxing, for a variety of reasons."

ground and pound or submission, but def take him down. would be stupid not to unless you can keep him at distance with kick combos and frustrate him. get him to over commit to some of his punches and take him down then but def take him down lol

Urijah Faber would kick his face to the other side of his head.

elias that was a good article

Thanks for reading Steve, glad you enjoyed it. So did I! Sam always does a great job.

"If I said there's a guaranteed $30 million payday, Floyd would be lacing them up," Cuban said, optimistic that Mayweather would eventually participate in an MMA match. "If not, I could see him working to train and develop and invest in MMA fighters, knowing the upside. He can teach them how to be a better boxer and add to their other skills."

Reading this part leads me to believe that Floyd isn't gonna ever actually be fighting MMA. Sounds like they'll use that angle to get a lot of mainstream press for HDNet fights and Mayweather's involvement in it, and he'll end up just throwing some money and his name behind it. Cuban is a smart guy, he knows that paying Mayweather to get on boarrd is a smart choice.

i think this could be good for mma whether or not mayweather is successful. Say he is successful, it brings more viewers, atleast one time, to the sport. If he is unsuccessful, it shows diehard boxing fans that boxing is not the only form of striking/fighting and that our sport is not a "streetfight"

tyson was not in his boxing prime though

and all the stupid threads about a hs wrestler vs (fill in the blank) are better ? we are just discussing something that is pretty big news even though it is nothing definite.

if he were to fight, which i'll believe it when i see it, i frankly don't think he'll do well...at all. even against guys who will stand with him. striking for mma is just so vastly different than it is in boxing. if PBF tries to come out and box, he's going to get knocked out. even if he fought at 135, it wouldn't take guys like Chase Beebe more than a minute to get him on his back, pinned to the fence, and have his face turned to hamburger. only upside to him fighting IMHO is for one of the smaller organizations to market him to death so when he loses, the guy who beats him will be famous.
