Report: Floyd a free agent!
IBF welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather has rejected an August 12 fight with Antonio Margarito and bought out his contract with Top Rank. Arum told ESPN that Mayweather paid Top Rank $750,000 to become a free agent. Top Rank will now use the August 12 date for the mandatory WBC title fight between Hasim Rahman and Oleg Maskaev with Antonio Margarito on the undercard. Floyd is eying a possible showdown with Oscar De La Hoya.

I really wanted to see him fight Margarito but if he fights De La Hoya that would be cool too. Bad move getting rid of Arum, he is the best promoter out there, could have made a DLH fight with Arum as his promoter. We'll see what happens.
They both made more for their fighters then any other promoter in history.
Both - great to work with on a business level as well.

Floyd doesn't need a promoter. World Champions don't need promoters. When you are a world champion it's better to be a free agent and promote yourself - you make alot more money doing it. If a fight makes 20 million the promoter is making 70%. If you're a free agent and have your own promotional company - who is getting the 70% :)

Klitscko's, Hopkins, De La Hoya and Winky Wright. When you have a good business mind - people come to you. Floyd may just promote himself with a co/ promoter.
People don't understand you do not need a manager and promoter once you have a belt - you are in control.
A manager ( who works his tail off to get you a title ) and promoter is only needed to get you to the title. Once you have the title you can make your own fights. This is why you see a lot of fighters leave their team after they get a title.
