Inaugural UFC lightweight champion and current AXS TV color commentator Pat Miletich recently appeared on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Beatdown” show, and discussed UFC light heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier.

“Obviously Cummins was not ready for that fight," said Miletich. "Anybody who knew the game knew he wasn’t, but that was a situation where they had to feed him somebody because nobody else wanted that fight. I guarantee it. That’s just the way it is -- nobody wants to fight Daniel Cormier. Everybody laughed at me when he was a last-minute replacement for the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix, when I said he was going to kill Bigfoot Silva and then beat Josh Barnett.”

Miletich was then asked if he thought Cormier was ready to fight for the title vs. the winner of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 on April 26.

I think he is," said Miletich. "I’m sure we’re going to see him fight somebody else before that and really truly legitimize himself (vs.) whoever it is that he fights, a Gustafsson or somebody like that, which would be a great measuring stick obviously. Gustafsson’s a very, very tough guy. But I think we’re going to see one more fight out of Daniel before he ends up fighting the winner of that fight.”

Cormier has dropped to light heavy from heavy as he was not willing to fight AKA teammate Cain Velasquez for the title. However, Miletich was asked if he thought Cormier could win at heavyweight, too.

“Certainly," replied Miletich. "I just think that at 205, he’s benefited. He’s quick enough to deal with the 205ers. He’s stronger than the 205ers. His wrestling is better than any of the 205ers. He’s going to make a lot of money there. He doesn’t have to be a heavyweight to make a ton of money. I think he can make millions being a 205er and running through people.

"But yeah, I think he could certainly win the heavyweight title also.”

I agree with Miletich. Cormier is a beast at LHW. I bet it will be Cormier vs Gus for the next title shot after Gus takes care of Manuwa.

DC is the flavor of the month right now. Can't wait to see him against top competition at LHW. I'm sure he'll get matched up against Lil Nog, it's the obvious and most favorable matchup for him. Gotta keep that hype train going. Rashad getting injured was the best thing to happen to him. Phone Post 3.0

Pat saw Brock train for one day and said, "In a year this guy is going to be the HW champ"

Everybody laughed, then Brock became champ in a year after training MMA for the first time at 31

Cormier IS Rashad just better wrestling and better striking. Which is saying a lot.

Definitely not flavor of the month. He's a legit contender for either of the two titles. The last fight was his weakest competition since probably his first two or three fights. He's fighting whoever they put in his face and destroying them.

I remember hearing Miletich being so high on DC, then it all played out. I should have figured.

In DC's latest fight, most of the "hype" surrounded Cummins' improbable transition from coffee house barista to UFC brawler. Dana called it a real-life Rocky story. Chael Sonnen called Cummins the best unsigned fighter in all MMA. UFC veteran Mark Munoz said, "I believe that Pat will give DC a run for his money." This quote appeared in a story that ran on foxsports.com with the inexplicable headline "Patrick Cummins living the dream by becoming Daniel Cormier's worst nightmare."

DC went on to thoroughly destroy Cummins in 79 seconds.

Whatever hype surrounds Cormier is legitimate given his accomplishments as a wrestler and mixed martial artist:

* former Olympic wrestler
* Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion
* Undefeated in 14 professional bouts

If anything, Cormier isn't hyped enough.

Cormier would have got worked by Rashad. Cormier has great wrestling that he mainly uses to keep the fight standing and he has decent boxing. Rashad is more explosive with quicker hands. His only chance to beat him is to push him against the fence and hold on for dear life like he did against Mir and Nelson. Phone Post 3.0

no way in heck that happens. Cormier is much stronger physically and hits a lot harder. The guy is a 205er and he manhandles heavyweights. Put Rashad against Mir, Nelson, Bigfoot, and Barnett and see what happens.

The man is a tank. And, Cain isn't a huge HW. It is possible that DC could take both titles.

Possible... But then I think about Brock's face hanging in a big flap, and Hammil being carried out of the octagon like he just walked away from a hideous plane crash. Both great wrestlers.

RIP Jon Jones

Do you people forget how badly Nog beat Rashad? Rashad was literally outclassed by lil' Nog.

He couldn't take him down, and got timed and countered at will on the feet. Nog made Rashad look like he had no clue how to box. Phone Post 3.0
