My Interview with the Godfather of US Army Combatives, General Ferriter

Please check out my latest interview at BJJHistory.org.

I sat down with Lieutenant General Michael Ferriter, US Army (Retired). The General is President and Chief Executive Officer of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. The Museum located in Columbus, OH honors the veterans of all branches of service, from both peacetime and wartime.

The General is often referred to as the Godfather of US Army Combatives and was instrumental in incorporating Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu into the Army training curriculum. He is also the first US flag rank officer to receive a Black Belt in BJJ.

I trace his career in the military, the key inflection points that led to the creation of the Army combatives program and the General’s current work at the NVMM (which includes an in-house BJJ academy).

You can find the article under the Globalization Era section. I hope you enjoy.

Has he ever killed someone in hand to hand combat?

I will need to ask that one in a follow up.
