my private lesson with mike rose

I had an excellent private lesson with Mike Rose on saturday. I got a little more insight to his guard passing methods. I realize he is a black belt and I am only a blue belt but when I have him in my guard, he totally shuts down all of my attacks. I feel totally smothered when he passes my guard. I am sure there are some here who has experienced being smashed by mike rose

Since getting mike jen's guard passing tapes, going to his guard pass seminar and taking a private with him, I have been trying to work on my smashing guard pass. Unfortunately mike jen lives in san jose and i am down here in LA.

Fortunately, my current instuctor mike rose is also an expert in the smashin guard pass. On Saturday we covered some basic details on the smashing (leg on shoulder) guard pass. he demonstrated to me the correct hand placements and body positioning. then we worked on the passing progression. he watched me step by step to make sure everything thing was done tight and with pressure. i didn't realize there were so many little details that if i did wrong would cause me to get triangled or swept. then mike showed me a few options depending on how my opponent would react. i know it is going to take sometime to perfect these moves but my understanding of this pass is much improved since my one private with mike. in my next private i hope to continue learning more details to this pass.

if anyone is interested in training with mike rose, he teaches in eagle rock at partriot martial arts and in el segundo at R1 gym (formerly RAW gym). mike is also available for privates and he is gives a discount if you buy a series of privates.

Mike Rose is cool as hell.  Our interview with him on our upcoming Tools of the Trade 2 DVD doesn't even talk about BJJ really.  Not sure how it happened, but we got into Samurai culture, living in the amazon, fighting for territory, etc.  Guy is cool as hell and he has the most amazing looking gi I have ever seen!  And yes, he knows the smashing pass.. my ribs were hurting after rolling with him at the Shawn Williams seminar.. anybody would be lucky as hell to train with Mike.

Iron Man, you gotta share us some of the tips you've learned. Especially the "little details" you were talking about and "then mike showed me a few options depending on how my opponent would react". This is the same thing I'm working at training. BTW, what is your belt colour? I'm a plain white shitty etc.
Thanks!

Mike's gi is whack, boy! Whatever you do, don't stare at it because it will throw your entire game off. I tried to use all of my moves from 4 years of judo at him and all he did was smirk and ask, "how old are you?" Damn!
