How often should mats be cleaned? Would it be rude if I asked an instructor how often the mats are cleaned?
daily
DAILY???? Oh, shit... I know my school doesn't clean daily... Should I volunteer to clean the fuckers or what?
Is there a special cleaner for mats?
bleach.
Clean the mats before every practice! This is the best stuff http://www.matsmatsmats.com/wrestling/mat_cleaner.html?SOURCE=over&KW=cleaner+mat+wrestling, but usually a bucket filled with dilutted bleach and a mop works.
ring worm sux
Warm/Hot water with 10/1 bleach. Simply Green works well also, you can buy it at Yardbirds, Home Depot, or Costco. It it about $5 a gallon, but you can use it to mop mats in a 20/1 solution, and it does not make mats slippery like bleach does. Kelfex is a good antifungal and antibiotic that gets rid of ringworm in a few days (must be perscribed by a doctor). Mats should be mopped after each class, it is tedious, but the humid sweaty atmosphere is a breeding ground for ringworm, staph, and fungus infections.
Would bleach ruin black mats?
TTT
yuk. definately clean the freakin mats man.
So, would bleach ruin black mats?
beats me

You want to head down to your local janitorial supply and get a product called HDQ2. It is an all in one bacteriocidal, fungicidal and viricidal cleaner. It also has a neutral pH and is fairly concentrated so a little bit goes a long way. The neutral pH effectively means you can grapple soon after cleaning the mats if they had not been cleaned the night before. Simply the best way to go to ensure your keeping nasty shit like the RW, Impetigo, staph, strep and the like off the mats.
Neutral pH will kill all that? Sounds good, I guess. Any experience with bleach on black mats? Thanks.
Ring Worm sux
at COBRA KAI jiujitsu in las vegas located directly behind cheetahs ...the mats get cleaned and disinfected 2X daily
oh ya and we use a product called odoban it kills hiv hepres staph ringworm everything and its all natural i think
I have been using Bleech on black mats for 3 years and other than a slight film if the bleech is not diluted enough it works well on black mats.
bleach will only take the color out of fabric and whatnot, it shouldn't effect the vinyl on the mats
